I'm excited. I know the Persona series (since it is both a JRPG and a spin-off of a JRPG) is one of those games that people either extremely love or hate, but I loved the most recent two (never got around to the first two). Actually, I love MegaTen in general.

It better not be a handheld game. Battles could look really nice if it had PS3 power. Or PS4, but only if it was for PS3&PS4.[/QUOTE]

It's probably going to be a PS4 title, potentially multiplat with the Xbox One. Considering the Sony love with the Persona series, at least PS4 would pretty much be expected.

The most logical choice would be PS3/360 and I'm basing this from Catherine and Persona 4 Arena. I mean it could come to PS4/Xbox One but I'm not sure if Atlus wants to make the jump to next gen.

Except that Persona 4 Arena and Catherine came out before the PS4 and One were really known about (discounting the EU version of P4A). It doesn't really make sense to develop big titles for last gen hardware as a third party at this point. I'd imagine most are preparing for the next gen quite readily while only really considering the PS3/360 for lower end multiplats.

Because FES and Persona 4 weren't released after the PS3 came out, right? And certainly Japan wasn't the only region to get the original Persona 3 release before the PS3 was released, huh?

Shin Megami Tensei games and spinoffs, including Persona, are what keep Atlus floating. There's no chance it comes out for the PS4 before it comes out on a proven system, and even less of a chance that it comes out on the One ever.

Assuming we're talking about a release no later than mid-2015, I'd say 95% it comes out on PS3, with a chance of a Wii U/360 port. PS4 likely won't have a significant user base by then, and it's up in the air if the One even makes it to Japan; the 360 tanked pretty badly over there. Wii U is still struggling, as is the Vita, so as of right now they're likely low-priority for new development. 3DS has a great userbase, but the hardware's barely above Wii-level, and excluding Arena and web/mobile games, the only Persona game to be released outside of a Sony system was a half-assed PC port of the first one. Given all that, the PS3 is pretty much the only choice they have if they want to see significant sales numbers.

Recall that the PS2 had a very substantial user base though. The console as a whole wasn't even discontinued until the beginning of this year, over 12 years after it launched. The PS3 had an exceptionally rocky start as well. It would have been a very bad choice to throw a Persona game onto the PS3 immediately because, due to the PS3's lacking popularity as a whole, there was no guarantee that systems would be sold by the game's existence, or that it would even be worth creating.

If it comes out mid-2015, unless the PS4 has gone the route of the PS3 in its first few years, we'll definitely be seeing it on the PS4. Considering what the PS4 has already thrown up for offer, the extreme hype, and the anticipated sales, I'd have an exceptionally hard time seeing developers not being willing to gamble on the PS4. As for the Xbox One, until it's a proven failure, third parties will at least invest in multi-platting games between the PS4 and One until it proves pointless to do so. Even if it doesn't have a bright future right now, the One isn't far off of the PS4 where specs are concerned, so multiplats of most titles is currently a reasonable approach.

Hell, provided the game comes out even six months after the launch of the PS4, Atlus will likely be able to see whether the PS4 is selling in a manner that makes putting Persona 5 on there worthwhile.
