In a series of tweets translated by a Neogaf user, Kamiya expressed disappointment in the fact that he doesn't see any magazine previews or promotional efforts in stores for Platinum Games new Wii U game, The Wonderful 101. He doesn't think there are enough ads or awareness for the game.

He also remarked that it wasn't a cheap game to make in terms of manpower and resources saying that they spent "1.5x the amount they did on Bayonetta 1".

From what we've seen of Nintendo's marketing efforts so far, they haven't exactly done much to promote his game opting to put more advertising effort to into stuff like Donkey Kong and Mario instead. Considering the track-record from Platinum Games, if Nintendo doesn't ramp up advertising, this game likely isn't going to sell well.

This game looks really good and with a cell-shaded art-style boding well with the Nintendo audience, it certainly has potential sell well. Considering Nintendo is funding this, it's in their best interest to have the game be a success on the market so hopefully they ramp up advertising in the weeks ahead.

Seriously. I've seen stuff about this game maybe twice outside of the E3 trailer, and while it looks great and fun, I would have never known it existed if I hadn't been actively hunting for it after seeing a message about "Platinum's Mystery Game" on the 'temp forever ago.

I've heard about this once. All the new Nintendo franchise rehashes, however? There isn't a place I can go where I can avoid them. Wonderful 101 looks nice though, reminds me a little of Viewtiful Joe

The game looks great.
Too bad it will like fail due to Nintendo not drumming up any interest.

Doesn't necessarily mean it'll fail... might become cheaper down the road due to lack of interest and I can snap it up for cheap hehehe

Magazines won't market it because it doesn't cater towards the 'mature' gamers. TV stations don't advertise shit aside from CoD, Halo and Assassins Creed.

...Which is why it's Nintendo's responsibility to get it out there.

Not to mention there's like the internet. Even just commissioning more trailers and hooking them up with interviews and previews will go a long way towards marketing. Hell there's not even a ton of ads for video games in TV commercials any more and not really in non-gaming magazines (and gaming magazines are a dying breed).

That's not because of any bias - it's just because Activision, Microsoft, and Ubisoft shell out the cash for the ad space. It can be a pricey investment, of course, but you can't expect people to buy a game (let alone a console) if they're not aware of it.

Oh Kamiya, and you thought Resident Evil 1.5 was terrible, now look at the resurgence of interest in Survival Horror because of it getting leaked and restored.

I heard about 101 not long ago and thought it was a Viewtiful joe type game as the art style and characters look similar. Guess it's not.

Oh and it is Nintendo's fault that the Wii U is failing. I bought a Wii U and kinda regret that I did in a way. Not enough advertising at all.

Guild, if there is one thing I have learned about developers and game sales trends, is that those who don't do any marketing are the first to cry foul when a game doesn't sell well. It's not just Nintendo, everyone does it and we sit here wondering why new franchises don't survive to see sequels.

Yes, I haven't seen marketing like for e.g. The Last of Us or COD, but I read more about the game than about other games for the Wii U. For a long time I`ve even thought this is a first party title. But here Nintendo doesn`t market any game in stores or advertisements at all.
Obviously Kamiya is talking about the marketing in japan. I hope that he isn`t right and the game will sell well in japan. It looks great and is hopefully very good. I will buy it. If it is good, I want to see another game of this kind. I remember Zak and Wiki for the Wii.... :(

Nintendo might be afraid that if they advertise this game then it could over shadow their first party games which really isn't saying much since another Mario themed game will be coming out within a months time. I personally believe Nintendo is being weary of the advertising gimmick due to their WiiU not gaining much ground as far as sales goes. I mean Nintendo should be lucky that this game looks polished and have potential buyers that will want a new game that's not always first party characters.

The one single game that looks better than anything coming out on Xbox One and PS4 lol. Looking at the previous page I was on now I think I'm crazy for preordering ps4 when the wii u is where all the games are at.

One single game? Are you high?

Unlike many people on these forums I don't smoke weed. so no.

and yes one game because most of the others are rehashes of rehashes of rehashes. I mean how many new super mario bros clones do we need or more zelda games or more smash bros or the list goes on indefinitely. I saw it has epic mickey 2 but so does regular Wii which is great.

anywho I think I'll consider getting this console when the price comes down a bit and by then there will be a full library of games.

As for my ps4 preorders I'm going to flip at least a couple of them and see where it is at with games. I think right now I like a few exclusives on PS3 but I also like PS2 except that the ps2 isn't HD so it looks not so great on my 42".
