I was really hyped when Nintendo announced that the Wii U would be able to support up to six channel lpcm. But then they released New Super Mario bros U and Nintendo Land. I was like cool...its Nintendo's first steps into HD and surrond sound gaming. Nopeee HD yes but 5.1 Lpcm no where to be seen. Then I was, ill give them a chance they won me over with the hd. Then 3 days ago G&Wario...which by the way its a very fun game easily a 7.5/10 in my eyes game. Did not also offer surround sound. What now Pikmin 3 also....I wouldnt mind since it will be my first Pikmin game but after that its Legend of Zelda Windwaker and Nooooo....it CANNOT skip surround on this game. Nintendo must truly implement it on this Game Capeshe..........CAPESHE. There im all better now. Thank u Iwata...sorryy I spit on your face...konichua arigato

I know it does. I currently have MH3U, Lego City U, Need 4 Speed MW U, Batman AC, all support 5.1 Lpcm. I meant Nintendo developed titles dont or havent implemented that feature.
Sorry for the misunderstanding.

The reason Nintendo doesn't include it is because most players don't care about it. Adding 5.1 surround doesn't justify the cost according to them.

Tbh Nintendo could include 128kbs Mono sound and Mario fans wouldn't give a damn.

Nintendo only supports 5.1 LPCM, and this is optional feature. This is not a mandatory feature that game developers need to implement, unlike competing consoles.

Problem with 5.1 LPCM (and this somewhat contradict Nintendo's stance in the past) is that only receiver that supports processing audio over HDMI input (some budget receiver only does pass-through) can decode it. This means for older receiver that don't have that capability you are out of luck. Receiver is not something you replace on a periodic basis.

In the past, Nintendo offers DDPL II for GameCube (during which optical receivers were expensive, so DDPL II was a cheaper alternative) and Wii. Nintendo didn't offer DDPL II on WIi U (presumably to shave few dollars off per unit for license fee) this time.

Ahhh, Windwaker was a Gamecube game, lmfao, Try all you want but the OUTPUT, transfer of signal, RECEIVER, then OPTIONS of source/receiver are integral. Also, SOURCE is key here. I never paid attention to Windwaker having 5.1 and want to say there are options in games also (been a LONG time since I played Windwaker). I am giving you the benefit of the doubt here that you are not trolling. Wind Waker is a Gamecube game, that is not built into the Wii U, and so if it is 5.1 then whatever you are using needs to be able to process that and output it. I go back and forth with your post being a trolling attempt. GameCube compatibility is not built into the Wii U so all bets are off. A Wii U game may not even support that mode (5.1).

Yeah, source, cable (using HDMI or the other output?), receiver, etc. Options in receiver matter as well. 1300 watts, every feature/format I want to give it, HDMI inputs (like 6) with one output to TV. If somebody is using the standard Wii cable as an output then you get video, then left/right channels. Two channel stereo is all you will get. As others said, the source matters. Oh, hdmi 1.4 for me. You can probably get away with 1.3 for the Wii U.

"It cannot skip" as in it has not been released yet. I meant the remake LoZ WW HD

Have you been living under a rock, lol. http://www.youtube.com/watch?nomobile=1&v=IkVt1s_ZFbw
Hope Nintendo implements surround sound into this game, since the soundtrack is pretty amazing.
I consider that game footage. I guess you can call that a demo. Basing your "No 5.1" view of Wind Waker on a video of gameplay is wrong. Unless video itself is encoded in 5.1 and it is stated game is 5.1 then you don't know. It was background music with visuals from the game. I was talking about a demo like you downloaded it from the Nintendo store. So you hope it will be 5.1 is about all you can say based on fact.

Yeah, I meant see demo of actual game to try out and hear it. I've always thought sound could be used in games like 3rd person to enhance it. If Aliens Colonial Marines was not horrible then in games like that the sound can be scary. Zelda, Metroid, Zombie U, and those types of games need surround sound (I think). Mario? Not side scrollers;-) I was thinking you actually played Wind Waker and it was not 5.1, lmfao.

What I don't get is why the Wii U doesn't support Dolby (or DTS), the Wii did.

I have all kinds of sound issues on my Wii U when I try to use surround sound, certain characters in a game will not speak their dialogue. My surround system is a pretty old 5.1 and does not support HDMI, so I hook the HDMI to my television and run an Optical Audio cable from my TV to sound system. Works fine on my Wii, PS3, Xbox 360, and PS2 but the Wii U has problems. I contacted Nintendo and they told me surround was LPCM format and then I contacted my TV manufacturer (Vizio) and I don't think they really new anything about what I was talking about but told me my set up should work fine for LPCM.

So anyway I am stuck using my Wii U in stereo mode and it kind of pisses me off. Another reason to keep my old Wii hooked up.....
