i have a 21 inch tv now, but i think about buying a 14 inch tv. the reason is because when i play ps1 and ps2 games on my ps3 they look really pixelated, it is so bad that my eyes begin to hurt. but will buying a 14 inch tv makes game look better or is it just the ps3 that cant play ps1 and ps2 games well? i mean when i play ps1 games on my ps2 slim the games look fine, i have also tried playing playing ps1 games on my wii and they also fine. i also play nes, snes, and gameboy games on my wii, and they also look fine.
so will buying a 14 inch tv make ps1 and ps2 looks better on my ps3? or will it not make a difrence and i should just keep my 21 inch tv? also how would wii/xbox360/ps3 games look on a 14 icnh tv? will all games look fine or are their some games that require a hdtv?

it depends how close you sit to your tv. a 21 inch tv from 10 feet away would look the same as a 14 inch tv 5 feet away.

Games look pixelated because of the PS3 's backwards compatibility. For some reason Sony decided to butcher its resolution, which they could easily fix in an update, but are too lazy to do so. And, personally, playing anything on a 14" TV will make my eyes hurt. So, don't buy one.

yes i also think its the ps3 hardware that does it,i have just seen some forum wheir they say the buying a 14 inch will make it look better over a hdtv. but the tv i have now isnt even a hd tv, so i guess it will not make a difference.

Playing on older consoles a CRT tv is usually better. Backwards compatibility on the PS3 isn't all that hot. I wouldn't plug my PS3 to a 14 inch tv cos that's just a waste of the system.

What you can do is use a CRT tv and hook up a PS2 and play PSX/PS2 that way. You don't have to go as small as 14 inches, you get something double that and shit will look fine. Personally with my PS2, I use component to hook it up to my HDtv and shit generally looks good.

my ps1/ps2 games look fine when i play it on ps2 slim.the reason i would like to play ps1 games on my ps3 is that the ps1 emulator on ps2 has a lov compatibly list compared to ps3 multiman.

That is because your TV is doing a better job on upscaling than PS3.

When you play it on PS2, your TV gets SD signal and upscale on its own.
When you play it on PS3, PS3 upscale the video first. Since PS3 already upscaled the video there is nothing left for TV beside displaying.

So many penis jokes....so little time.

Seriously though, this topic is going to hell in a handbasket soon, let's be honest. I thought I'd try a preemptive strike to take the funny out of it before the trolls arrive.

In all seriousness though, I had this problem trying to play FF7 through my PS3 when I had it hooked up to the 42" plasma. The resolution was so butchered that when I cast cure, you could see the box around the animation, you could make out every pixel, it looked like ass. Playing on a smaller screen certainly helped, so you might wanna give it a try.

You can probably pay less for a used PS2 and crt TV than buying a 14 inch flat screen. I have a smalll crt, with an xbox, ps2, and dreamcast sitting right next to my computer. The PS3, 360, and Wii U are in the other room under my 42 inch digital TV.

Why don't you get a PS3 composite cable, and just switch cables when doing you're 'retro' gaming? That way you're tv receives a SD signal again, and should do it's own (unbutchered) upscaling. :teach:

But for the record: I don't own a PS3, so maybe i'm completely wrong here.

Yeah, if you're going to output a PS3 with composite cables you're gonna have a bad time.

I have a 24" and I've used Component and HDMI cables and haven't really noticed any extreme pixelation. Do you have a modern flat screen TV, or are you using a CRT currently? Older consoles will look better on CRTs, but a PS3 will look terrible.
