The company that owns Atlus (several of your favourite GBA, DS and PS2 games) is facing bankruptcy according to an article on gamespot. I personally hope this doesn't effect the company's ability to make games, what with that Shin Megami Tenseii and fire emblem game coming out.

Screwattack also reported on it and links to a bankruptcy filing (warning PDF, also in Japanese).

If this does go through I wonder if Nintendo will buy them or their ip to bolster more support for the wiiu, or will another company like square enix come in to enhance their library?

Hopefully Atlus gaming side doesn't end up being sold to Nintendo or any other large console manufacturer. It's more about a practicality than anything else. Atlus has a huge library of games (both good and bad) and they span the whole generation. If they end up to Nintendo or anyone else of the big 3, the rich games will diminish to a single console or handheld. That'd be just sad for the consumer.

I could kind of see Nintendo buying Atlus, considering Atlus has been spoiling Nintendo a bit lately (Not to mention SMT x FE for the Wii U). However, I too would rather not see the company fall into the hands of either of the big 3 as well.

Despite them not doing much I especially care for these last few years (pure personal preference/have not played) I can see this is a less than ideal situation. If it does go pear shaped I hope the next ones to seek investment will consider it is the parent company that took things down and not the company itself.

Meh, it's just Index going under, so Atlus is safe until further notice, especially considering that they're their most successful party.

I enjoy the Persona and Fire Emblem franchises, so at least it can be stated that the developers are good, which gives me hope.

Ahem, Shin Megami Tensei and Persona are two completely different franchises. Persona is a spinoff of the former, and they don't play the same at all.
