"Well, we love Metroid. We love Metroid Prime and we always will. It was a big part of our studio, the culture of the studio. The majority of that team is still at Retro. When we finished with DK, we still had a lot of really cool ideas. That, in combination with what the Wii U could do, we really wanted to continue with that. Again, Retro Studios loves Metroid. We might do another one someday. But we really enjoyed working with DK as well.

We’re pretty much on one major project at a time. We do a game every two years or three years. In the first year of that, we have some extra bandwidth, so sometimes… We helped out with Mario Kart 7. We helped Monster Games do the 3DS version. Sometimes we’ll have a little bit of extra bandwidth to help out other entities at Nintendo. We really feel strongly about helping out Nintendo as a whole, so if we have time, we’ll do that. Do we have the bandwidth to do two major projects at once? I don’t think so. A big project and a little project at the same time, we can do that."

Kensuke Tanabe, an Executive Officer at Nintendo.:
"Basically I’m thinking of, not just Samus, but how we can expand the whole Samus universe. You remember Metroid Prime Hunters. I’m thinking about things like how we could make that go out further, with all these different bounty hunters as well."

If they make another Metroid, they better not let Sakamoto work on the story again. Just let Retro do Prime 4 and all will be good.

Nintendo, please appreciate that we the fans are MUCH more concerned with Metroid gameplay than Metroid lore.
The story serves the gameplay, not the gameplay serving a wannabe movie.

Prime games were good, but we seriously don't need any more 2d side scrollers or FPS games, no more refill energy and missiles by standing around instead of collecting it from defeated enemies and no more having all your items from the beginning and not being able to use them.
I am sick of the linear 3d 2d side scrollers being made of great franchises too like castlevania LOS, it's just poor effort and laziness, where are the open world 3d translations of the classic franchises?
the developers have lost sight of what true fans want nobody cares about stupid story line cinemas and patrick stuart narrations.

I could go for full 3D but for gods' sakes don't force the helmet view. that was the one thing that put me off the prime games (Yes, I put quite a few hours into each installment, just didn't click with me.)

Well with the wiiu you could hold the lcd screen wiiu controller up to the screen and use that for a scan visor function, I would want a 3rd person metroid, I'm not a fan of 1st person games, when I found out prime was 1st person it was a let down, like when I found out other M used the d pad not analog.

"where the open world 3D translations" Like the Prime series? Honestly, they could make another 2/2.5D Metroid at this point and most people would love it.

They'll do a Metroid when they feel like it, right now they wanted to make a DK game and since that's what they wanted to do it'll turn out to be a better game as a result.
Metroid getting made later when they feel like it rather than now will ultimately mean the same thing, a better game. By that time they'll have more knowledge of the hardware too so unless DK turns out to be a bad game (it won't) we shouldn't complain about their decision.

Prime series spoilers:
They really can't do a new Prime game, as Phaze was destroyed. It was the source of all Phazon, which the Prime games centered around. There was the little easter egg at the end with what is most likely Dark Samus's ship, but Dark Samus isn't the center. She is just a recurring enemy in the second and third games.

I would love a new Prime-style game, but it would be lame if they tried to continue the story after effectively bringing it to an end. A new story would be better.

@kehkou Do you mean don't make it first person? That was one of the best parts IMO.

Yeah, first person completely revitalized the franchise and gave us a new, awesome way to play Metroid games. I'd like to see them continue the first person stuff as well as a classic Metroidvania game this generation.

After Team Ninja and Sakamoto shit the bed, I can't blame for them for not wanting to jump in right away.

Yeah I mean they do care, it's just that the messed up the story on other M would have been better without it, well not exactly FPS but they were 1st person except in the ball and screw attack in the 2nd one.
