It's a new feature. It's called a "horde" battle. One of your pokemon fights multiple wild pokemon, and if it defeats them all at the same time, you get a lot of EXP.

Hopefully with the new horde concept, we'll start to see more large AOE moves such as Surf and Earthquake, for other types.
Fairy type looks cool, but sounds cheesy. REALLY cheesy, but cute nonetheless. If only they introduced two types, one SE against dragon (fairy), and one SE against Dark types.
Amie is really adorable. Heh. Can't wait to use it with a Lilligant, or a Meloetta. Y-vern's blast looks cool too.

I wonder if aoe moves get a further reduction in BP against so many opponents. They're already reduced to 75% of their strength if they target more than one pokemon.

Possibly less chance than 1vs 1 wild encounter. And perhaps only 1 shiny in horde battle? if they are program it that way.

Victory Road never makes it that easy, if all of the previous games are anything to go by. More than likely, wild pokemons there will be resistant to one or both.
