Gaming Animal Crossing Too Little Kid Like?

I keep seeing all this hype for Animal Crossing New Leaf on the 3DS. As an adult gamer who's never played the series, I thought it kind of looked like it was geared towards little kids. Am I wrong? I'm a pretty casual gamer and enjoy RPG's and such, but was quite curious about this one based on all the news I'm seeing...

Just like Pokemon, these games are for all ages. For the most part, its obviously more targeted towards the younger audience but this isn't really an rpg if that's what you're going for. Its harvest moon without getting love points for banchelors/bachelorettes and alot more customization eg. your house,clothes, patterns, etc. I say go for it

Animal Crossing is one of those games you either love or hate - I personally think it's both ugly and tedious but it has a degree of charm to it that some people adore. Not my cup of tea, but if you come across it, try it out for yourself.

I've known grandparents that are technologically inept, grandparents that play casual games, and grandparents that play World of Warcraft. Age doesn't matter when it comes to games (at least going down in age; a little kid playing M rated games is different). Like most Nintendo games (at least in my opinion), the game is designed towards kids, but enjoyable for all ages. I'm not exactly a fan myself, but that has nothing to do with my age.

No. Animal Crossing games are sort of like the Sims, but cutesy-er and more interactive. It looks kiddy like, but once you start playing, you'll see the charm. I mean, my 56 year old dad plays it. I don't think 56 year old Iranian males play "kiddie" games.

And always the answer is no. Just because it looks kiddy like doesn't mean it's fun for adults.
Many reviewers and even 50 over people play these games and find it too fun.
A game to escape your busy life.
Just say you're a PS4/Microsoft/PC fanboy, you've played all games such as COD.
You look at Mario games and say, please, COD is way manlier and better than this kiddish mario game.
And they always miss the fun from the Ninty games. You'll never know unless you play.

I hate when this topic comes up. (In fact, I'd be doing a youtube rant about it soon.) Games are not kiddy based on their graphics engine.

I personally game to:
- feel challenged
- escape my busy and tedious life
- to enjoy the storyline
- to socialize

Animal Crossing New Leaf is basically Nintendo's answer to the Sims. (You customize everything - your clothes, your hair, your town, and your life.) I find it addicting (I put in so much time with Wild World - the DS version)....

i never really understood whats up with the game, after all, the custumizing aspect still feel extremely limited. walking around, putting things here and there and spending hours to pay up to tom for a bigger house or some different music. presonally, i couldn't get bothered to play it over the 5 hour limit i usually give new games. nothing exciting happened, and i didnt feel like i accomplished anything.
but thats entirely based on gaming experience, not on the way things looked.
it does look like its for kids, but personally, i dont think i would've enjoyed this if it looked like dragon age or whatever

The tunes in AC game always soothe.

Kinda distracts from ones everyday life.

I remember the first day I got the GCN game, I played it for over 5 hours straight, It can get quite addictive. However, if you want your games to have a "point" then it's not your type of game. There's no real way to "win" and the game more or less goes on forever.

I have never quite understood why people worry about the "maturity" of games now. Are they really that insecure about their age?
At this point, it's safe to say that a lot of children, 12 and under, play Call of Duty, and plenty of adults 20 or older play things like Pokemon... or, in this case, Animal Crossing. And last I checked, "E" means "Everyone," not "little kids only."
If it's not your cup of tea, then leave it at that, since the debate about the childishness of games is stale.

Because people still have that typical Nintendo stereotype going on, that their games are "for kids". Some generalize and make sweeping remarks about Nintendo as a whole, some only on specific "kiddy looking" games, but it's the same stereotype nonetheless.

Basically, if it looks serious, it's for mature people (see GTA, lol). If it's cartoony, it's for kids (see Adventure Time, Pokemon, Animal Crossing).

Just because it uses a cartoon-ish style doesn't mean it's childish. It's a very addicting game for all ages, and it works better when you're older just because you put all the stress of work/school in it. It's like a gentle breeze in a hot day, so relaxing and fresh But I, for one, don't think that anything beyond the letters/numbers/learning games are for kids only, and even then if an old guy plays those and enjoys them, who am I to stop them? What's important in a game is to enjoy it, no matter what the age-rating it is! And the age-rating system is not made to judge a game if it's for kids only or adults only, it's made so they can point out the things not suitable for younger people (Like blood, drugs, etc.) so if the game is rated for everyone, that means that there are nothing that is not suitable for everyone, and that's a good thing because... yeah, everyone can enjoy it, not only adults. Ehh.. I kinda went off-topic there with the rating stuff, sorry, but my point is that no matter what the art-style is, it doesn't necessarily mean it's not for children. For all we know they could make a cartoon-ish CoD-esque game someday X_X

The games really don't have a target age group, it's more like the Sims with a cutesy texture over it. If anything it's a game made for anyone of any age to pick it up and enjoy it.
I suggest if you want to know what the hype is all about, why not just pick up a copy yourself and play it. That's the best way to understand a game really.
