the emulator they used for gameboy eShop games seem rather limited. at least the NES games have download multiplayer now.

you can change size and switch between Gray-scale and Pea soup green but thats it. which i dont understand because they have GBC games, so why not run original GB games through a GBC emulator and add color? or better yet, add Super Gameboy palettes.

playing Donkey Kong or Metroid in black and white just seems wrong.

another thing that really boils my piss is you cant re-map the buttons. Y is select, and i keep pressing Y by accident which bring up a menu in the middle of a game. really annoying.

my preferred setup would be A=B, X=A, B=A, Y=B.

also, i dont understand the game selection at all. who wants to play pacman on game boy when you could play it on NES? same with tennis, golf, or baseball. the NES versions are superior.

my ultimate GBC wish list would be:
Pokemon Yellow, Final Fantasy Legend, Dragon Quest, Shantae, Metal Gear, Bionic Commando elite forces, James Bond 007, Gex 3.

maybe its just first-gen GB games for now but then, where is F-1 Race? or Wave Race? and Pokemon? i thought Nintendo owned the rights to Pokemon?

multiplayer probably wont be possible, at least not the same way it works for nes games

i was thinking that's the reason why theres no Pokemon or F1 Race, they were advertised heavily as multiplayer games originally.

although, F1 Race features an image of Donkey Kong without the red tie, so maybe there afraid of being sued by Universal Studios again. just a theory.

Universal lost that case as they had no rights to King Kong in the first place. I highly doubt that would even be a thought in their head as a reason for not releasing the game.

You might want to check out Drenn's new emulator GameYob in the DS Homebrew section.

It has free button mapping, Super Gameboy support, SGB and Custom borders, cheats, turbo keys, save states, scaling, and filters!

Its tops for the one thing that matters most -- stability.

Except not really. Which of the Virtual Console GB games is Gameyob "unstable" on?

i would if the GB/GBC emulator, can run in GBA mode, but uses default GB/GBC colors
as some game to get extras when it they are played on the GBA
they are
GBA enhanced GBC games, how will they work on the 3DS

the Zelda oracle game and Shantae are GBA enhanced GBC games,

they are coming to the 3ds eshop

Check out the Gameyob thread for numerous examples. Commercial emulators are more stable than homebrew, as great as Gameyob may be.

Don't forget Nintendo made the GBC so they should know it best. They also have the resources to customize the emulation wrapper for each ROM and put in 100's of hours of professional play-testing.

I don't mind the emulator. Some of GameYob's features would be nice, like GBC bios support for coloring monochrome GB games, and the SGB borders are pretty neat and would be better with the full 3DS resolution, as opposed to being cut off (afaik) in GameYob. I'm not a fan of cheats, save states (except the one provided already), so none of that bothers me.

What I really like is the UI. Just like the Wii U VC UI, it just works, and looks decent. GameYob is an eyesore to look at, just like nesDS. Nobody cares about stuff like that the way I do though. If GameYob could have an interface like TempGBA, that would be good enough for me.

Of course none of this matters because of the games. By the time most of the good games come out for the VC, it'll be years down the road and Nintendo will be pushing the next great portable. It was ridiculously late in the Wii's life before it got the top games like Super Mario RPG, Chrono Trigger, and Final Fantasy III. They wait too long, I would easily spend hundreds of dollars right now on the 3DS virtual console, but instead I have a handful, and emulate the rest, and by the time the ones I really want get released, I won't care anymore.

They would have to emulate the snes hardware to use these palettes and sound fonts that Super Game Boy games took advantage of.

That's the way they were designed to be played.

nope. many games had full colorization with a Super Gameboy. im used to playing Donkey Kong and Metroid 2 in full color on the SNES. so going back to 2-color just isnt the same.

also, zelda is a Black cart, so why cant we switch GBC from color to grey if you wanted?

I don't really mind the emulator, all I care about is getting the games I want.
(Wario Land III, please.)

they seem to be taking their sweet time with it, they missing Wario land 3, Game and watch 3, GB Mega Man 2, and 3, and 4, and 5

i really hope they get Pokemon Yellow soon though.

probably they will modify it to be fully unlocked from the start. they claimed Zelda data will transfer from Ages to Seasons. so there something special going on there.

i really should keep up with DS emulation soon. i have a PSP-3000 for emulation so ive been putting it off. i remember how horrible GBA emulators were.

the speed of the 3DS's emulator seem a bit off to me. but having it on the start page is more convenient than: selecting the flashcart, navigating to the emulator, navigating the game list, fiddling with the frame rate, etc.

also i like being able to actually update the system and access the eShop whenever i want. without waiting for the team to release a fix every update.

Commercial emulators are more stable, but not all the time. The Ultimate Sega Genesis Collection fails in a lot of areas; the YM2612 emulation is off in many games, not all games use more than three buttons, some games are programmed to use only A and B but not C. It was a poorly coded emulator, whereas Steve Snake and Ekeeke developed far superior cycle-accurate emulators.

Does anyone else seem to get a ton of motion blur when they turn the green filter on?

dont know. ive never been able keep it on long enough. the green filter is so ugly it gives me a headache.

but it couldent be worse than the original gameboy. GB and GB Pocket both have really bad motion blur or "Ghosting" trails.
