start over jailbreak without losing jailbreak?? I would like to know the safest way possible to restore a ps3 jailbreak without losing my jailbreak and start over with a CFW I would like to install. [Preview]

I recently acquired and revived a previously YLOD'd 3.55 to 4.21 hybrid jailbroken ps3 but I'm not sure what has been done with it, so I would like to start over from scratch to make sure I don't brick it if I want to install a CFW. [this PS3 will not go online. I have my Super Slim for my legit gaming]

here is what i have so far that i've seen.

says 4.21 in the system settings. but the previous owner said it was a "3.55 to 4.21 hybrid jailbreak"

HOMEBREW XMB
HOMEBREW ICON IN THE XMB
Install Package Files in the homebrew Icon.
folder that says /app_home/PS3_GAME

GAME XMB
INSTALL PACKAGE FILES in the GAME XMB
folder that says /app_home/PS3_GAME
a CD ICON with a QUESTION MARK that says LOAD LAST GAME
a HDD ICON that says Game Data Mode: [HDD]
another CD icon that says BD-ROM REDIRECTION RESET =< no idea what this does.
and lastly one shows a scorpion that says TOGGLE QA. ( i know this ones important to enable for CFW)

all these files give me a black screen upon launch (probably because they were booted from a USB stick with the files on it)

also for some reason, this PS3 doesn't read my PS3 games or PS1 (it's not the PS2 compatible one) maybe due to the jailbreak?? or possibly due to the lack of MultiMAN?

is there any way to get settled straight on the best CFW for this moment and have it play my CD games? and possibly multiMAN, which perhaps this is the only thing I need? (which is not installed yet)

pretty much: I would like to know the safest way possible to restore a ps3 jailbreak without losing my jailbreak and start over with a CFW I would like to install.

thanks :)

Edit: just Installed MULTIMAN CEX v04.40.00 myself from USB. and it still gives me the black screen...possibly a refresh will fix this...

for now...every XMB homebrew icon gives me a black screen..

edit 2: there is Rogero, Kmeaw, REBUG and CDEX. Which is the most recommended / most supported CFW at this time?

It is probably on 3.55 spoofed to 4.21. But in case it's on the hybrid downgrader PUP, the first thing I would do is enable QA and install OFW 3.55 to dehash it (make sure there's no game disk in the drive). Once you do that, take out the HDD, format it on your PC and re-install OFW 3.55 when it asks you to. This will give you a fresh console on OFW 3.55.

Then, install Rebug 4.41.2 by following the guide below:

1- Make NOR/NAND dump (optional):
Install latest version of multiMAN (4.40.00), plug in a FAT32 formatted USB flash drive into the right USB port, launch multiMAN under Games and go to mmOS > Press [O] on any file > Open in HEX viewer > Press [SELECT] > Press [START] > Export GameOS LV2: Select No > Export HV LV1: Select No > Export FLASH: Select Yes

2- Install Rebug 4.41.2 from XMB:
Download Rebug 4.41.2 from Rebug's website, verify the md5 hash, rename the PUP to PS3UPDAT.PUP, put it on your FAT32 formatted flash drive in PS3\UPDATE, go to System Update and Update via Storage Media. Make sure there's NO original game disk in the drive and that you DON'T Update via Internet or else you would risk installing OFW higher than 3.55!

3- Enable QA:
Install Rebug Toolbox from Package Manager, launch it under Games, go to Utilities and enable QA (or make sure it's still enabled). This is to ensure easier and safer downgrading.

Edit: Wait, if all homebew are black screening, this means your BD Drive is disconnected or the logic board is fried.

it previously had a YLOD but I brought it back to life. so if the BD-Drive is disconnected or the logic board is fried am I screwed??

You said you fixed the YLOD, right?

How did you fix it? I assume you opened it to fix it, so double check that the BD Drive is connected.

actually no, like a stupid noob I just used a blowdryer for 20 minutes and a fan. It hasn't been opened yet.

I have a classic CECHE that I use this method on every once in a while and it works fine

You said it doesn't read your PS3 games.

I assume it doesn't read the disks, right? So the BD Drive is not working.

If so, as I told you, you're looking at a disconnected BD drive or a fried logic board.

First open it and check if drive is connected.

Then you have to replace it and marry it.

I'm not sure if the drive is connected but not married causes black screen apps, but I don't think so.

Afaik, if the logic board is connected and working, apps should stared even if it's not married.

I thought once you disconnect a BD Drive, even if you remarry with another drive, it will never read games again. thats why there is so many PS3's on the market that don't read games. because once the original BD drive is swapped and replaced with another one. it still won't read games...right?..how hard is it to fix the logic board?? :wtf:

I got it with this description:

Up for sale is a Sony ps3 3.55 firmware. This ps3 does have the yellow light of death and cannot be played until fixed. I am selling it because I do not have the knowledge to do so myself

It is on a 3.55 to 4.21 hybrid jailbreak and all that needs to be done is a update either way of your choosing

This ps3 is in decent shape with a few scuffs

It has the ylod

It comes with a power cord

sounds like I need to dispute this as no mention to NOT READING GAMES is mentioned anywhere.

edit: with research I've found that the black screen homebrew issues are due to the BD drive (in conjunction with what you've been telling me.)

I bought this PS3 to be a cheap hacked secondary PS3...wasn't really looking to a 2 weekend long of a project. (hence why I haven't hardware modded my CECHE one..I have a soul draining full time job and have no time to do it :()

If the BD drive is connected and it's more complicated than that...i'm going to file a dispute on ebay and get my money from that little fucking twat in MO

That's not correct. Once the BD Drive is swapped and married, it will operate normally as if it were the original one.

I think that this drive was swapped. this drive spins when I put a game into it and feeds it well. I bet what happend was

the ps3 was hacked and worked fine. drive went out. owner swapped it with new drive. didn't marry the new drive. drive doesn't work or play his homebrew...freaks and sells it to some sucker (me) on ebay. I opened the PS3 and the BD drive is connected to the board fine

how complicated is it to marry a new BD drive?

so you're POSITIVE that a Rebug CFW re-install over the spoofed 3.55 to 4.21 CFW is not going to fix my problem here

I just refreshed my info, the drive has to be married. Even if it is connected, you will get black screen if it's not married.

Yes positive. If the drive is not married, nothing will solve your problem except marrying it.

Here's how to do it:
http://www.ps3devwiki.com/wiki/Remarry_Bluray_Drive

Put the service mode JIG/dongle/PSGrade into port 0 (closest to the reader) and get into factory service mode.

so I have to have access to a 3rd party dongle downgrader?...so which means I have to buy one?

i'm already on 3.55 spoofed to 4.21

damn..I got this ps3 for 160.00 in the condition it's in.

is it worth it more to just file an ebay dispute and send it back or take the hit and go for it?

I don't need access to the old drive right?

It is very difficult to find jailbreakable PS3s these days, if you can find another one, file a dispute and return it.

If not, you'll have to keep it and attempt to fix it.

I don't think you need the old drive to remarry, but i'm not sure. Do some research to make sure.

This might be the old drive and the PS3 could have been downgraded but not re-married.

by the way,for shit...thanks for helping me out so much here, it means a lot to me...scurrying around the internet I came upon this

http://www.nextgenupdate.com/forums...tion/260267-how-downgrade-3-50-android-2.html
http://www.ps3hax.net/showthread.php?t=36767

now I have a rooted android galaxy s3...perhaps this will work? :tpi:

edit: also a daxter edition prometheus flashed PSP slim
http://brandonw.net/psp/ps3jig/

and [link removed as site involved ISO files for the PS3] has a tutorial on PS3 jig for the PSP

as you can see, I would like to not spend any more extra money

Now i've heard that this method will removed BD playback sometimes. That doesn't bother me. This PS3 is a homebrew machine. I don't need playback, just the drive to talk to the PS3. My super slim and my CECHE are the ones I would like to have BD playback on :)

Yes that might work. Good luck...

Regarding loosing BD playback, as far as I can remember, this used to happen when downgrading but I think there are ways to fix it now and I don't think it will happen if you re-marry.

should I get rid of the 4.21 spoof before I continue this? ..it's not going into service mode when I push power and then eject. does it HAVE to be on 3.55?

how can I downgrade, when all homebrew gives me a black screen?

Yes it should be on 3.55 but it doesn't matter if there's a spoof. Unless it is on 4.21 CFW. You can try installing kmeaw first if you want, just to make sure you're on 3.55. If it doesn't install, this means you're on 4.21 CFW.

Are you sure you created a proper FSM JIG?
