Update (5/6/13) : fixed after they sent me a replacement!

i have a 3ds xl with the latest firmware. I bought a DSTwo with 4GB card from http://nds-card.com and it came today and was expecting it to work out the box.

First time i tried it didnt work and got the "An error has occured" screen.

tried it a couple more times with the same error, then I ejected and reinserted the sd card and this time it did work. rebooted it and got to the "error" screen. tried removing and reinserting the flashcart a few times but still got the error.

What i then noticed was that to get it to work i have to eject and reinsert the sd card. Just removing and reinserting the DSTwo cart is not enough.

ejecting and resinserting the sd card seems to work about 80% of the time.

Another thing i noticed is that if i place the 3ds xl on a hard kitchen table to restrict the movement and i get the flashcart to boot up. If i press the "Home" button to exit out the cart and try to launch it again it fails to load. This seems to suggest its not a contact / connection problem.

I then tried the flashcart in an old DSi and it works first time everytime.

Quite disappointing as the DSTwo has some good features.

Would nds-card accept it back and maybe swap for a R4i GOLD 3DS Revolution for Nintendo 3DS?
Is there any issues with this card in a 3DS XL?
I want a good flashcart that my young son can use without the hassles of not working and having to eject / reinsert sd cards all the time.

i have an AceKard 2i in my Dsi and thats been trouble free since i got it.

You got a DSTwo from the old non-working batch. Sad to hear about that. Ask for a refund or tell them what happened.
In my case they sent another DSTwo without asking me to send them the old one.
If you're lucky maybe it happens the same to you.
Good luck :)

I believe the batch is quite recent.

try to clean the contacts of the dstwo, sometimes mine does that as well. you can easily open up the dstwo by unscrewing the screw and carefully taking off the back plastic piece. this will expose the contacts better so you can clean more thoroughly with a q tip and some alcohol. If that does not help it then replace the dstwo.

They have asked me to return it, its going to cost £8.80 ($13) so this is making it a very expensive flashcart. :(
They say it was checked before it was sent but i guess not on an 3DS XL.

It is not a contact problem because the 3DS is practically brand new. and on the odd occasion i get it to work and i have had it sitting on a hard table. When i do a soft reboot using the power button, it doesnt work after rebooting. I have read on another forum it might be a power issue just to the cpu on the cart not receiving enough power (not sure if thats 100% fact though)

Wish I just ordered a R4i Gold now, would have been a quarter of the price and would probably have been trouble free.

Who did you buy it from. That's pretty shitty service to make you pay for their sending you a defective POS

the issue is not with any build of the ds, but with the cheap $1 flash kit designs. cheap plastic, cheap designs, cheap mounts, etc, result in contact issues.

so how do you explain then if its a contact issue, when i finally get the flashcart to work, holding it perfectly still on a hard table. If i do a soft reset of the 3DS, it doesnt work after a reboot?
When the 3ds restarts, the cart shows up ok, but gives the error when you try to launch it

Because is not a contact issue either. The problem is located in one of the chips of the build of a specific batch. The problem with the chip is that sometimes it won't deliver the energy the card needs to overpass the DS security. That's why most of the DSTwo works on the DS while having problems with 3DS and DSi and that's why I doesn't matter if you made it work one time, if you reset it chances are you will get the error screen. That's the reason why I had my 3DS in sleep mode for months until I got some 3DS games.

Doesn't sound like a contact issue if it works fine on the DSi. Not that it matters, it's faulty hardware regardless.
My Acekard 2i works fine in my friend's DS Lite, but not mine.
Contact issues are a result of a number of factors, from too thin/thick of plastic, poor contacts on the card, dirty contacts on the card, ect.

This happens to my cards, I often remove the backs of them (some have teeth, so you need to remove the back) and gently clean the contact with a q-tip with WD40, then I dry it off with the other end of the q-tip. It works 90% of the time with most of my flashcards...with the exception of my Acekard 2i, which almost never works.

i have kits that work fine in one ds but not another. i have also experienced contact issues after pressing the dsi xl power button. sometimes the contact between the pins and the teeth is so sensitive that one tiny little shift of the handheld can cause an issue.

i've heard nothing official about issues with the chips and/or the build of the PCB, which is why i'm still leaning towards contact issues.

I'm quite sure that someone from the DSTwo team talked in the forums about that... Tho it has been quite some time and I'm kinda disconneted from the thing... Anyway I'm not saying that contact issues don't happen, but that is more likely a card from the bad batch.
