Think the Disney deal was too much? Too exclusive and limiting? Think again.
Electronic Arts has closed an other licensing deal with the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) have announced an extension of their existing licensing agreement until the end of 2022. That means EA Sports’ soccer video games will continue to have the exclusive rights to the FIFA brand and the FIFA World Cup name.

In other words, one of the worlds largest and best selling football (soccer to you English-crippled Americans :creep:) games will remain in the hands of EA for the next 10 years. Wanted a bit of competition? Not going to happen with the current rosters and teams in the larger football series worldwide.

Well... it doesn't matter even if they don't change anything but update the teams and rosters, people will still buy the game. People bash a yearly COD but they see nothing wrong with this, it's ridiculous, the changes are miniscule..

FIFA is easy money, you are right. Pokemon use to release dual titles, but there is more difference between pokemon black and pkm white than between FIFA 11 and 12 for example.

What is there to change anyway? It's football. They get a graphics overhaul every few years, physics engine upgrade, some new dribbling and passing mechanic maybe, that's it really. And even if they did introduce something revolutionary in the engine, on the outside it's still football and it's hard (for non-players) to spot any change.

Then again, Pokémon is in many ways the same thing with the dual releases. If the game engine, fighters (pokémon), maps and mechanics are done, it's a minor annoyance to add a few locations and change the texts in a location or two.

Both games are very close to each other in the same way, just like every other game that has annual or semiannual releases.

Fifa>>>Pokemon

Seriously though, I see no issue with this. EA have done a good job with the Fifa games in recent years where the quality of the series has increased substantially from their last gen efforts.

Where does winning eleven/pro evo sit these days then? Names and likenesses did not seem quite such a problem as it does for American football (though it should be said pro evo does seem to have various teams as of recent years).

People have been bashing "annual sports games" for years. Now there are many times certain trends completely pass me by but I am rarely subject to trends that are not so I am fairly confident in that being an actual thing and not variation of megaman syndrome.

That said football bores me to sleep (as do most team sports) and the computerised versions are even worse for it.

Last gen Pro Evo was the superior series but since the leap to the PS3/360, EA really caught up and surpassed Pro Evo. The last reiteration or two of Pro Evo have been better but not as good as Fifa. I remember Pro Evo being the default choice for anyone who wanted to play a good football game but now Fifa is that choice.

I mainly remember epic fanboy wars all through the PS1 and PS2 and as there is rarely anything to them and with the whole football being completely uninteresting to me I never bothered to follow it up.

Congratulation, EA. Seriously, wouldn't it be weird for you to have a Fifa game made by someone other than EA Sports? I mean, every Fifa I played was made by EA Sports, I think playing a Fifa made by a different company would kinda feel weird... well, the lack of EA's logo would feel weird, the game can't possibly change unless the football rules change dramatically. For me Fifa = EA Sports, so, nice job there, EA... even though ProEvo is better than you, and I really don't care about the football games.

How is this not a perfect match? FIFA want money and are accustomed to churned out releases to accomplish that. EA are renowned for churning out minor updates to their games ad nauseam. It's not like they have to do much work to keep people happy...and if they're going to screw something up it's probably better that they do something where there are alternatives.

You guys are still playing Fake Football? You poor, poor things.

Who's onboard for my humanitarian intervention idea? It's about time Europe got real Football, ice in their soft drinks, free refills, and diabetes.

It is called rugby and comes with the added bonus of not having to dance around in full padded armour, it is pointless but you can ask for it, they exist in some places but the trick is much like having a cheap night out-- you drink before you go out of the house and Europe is as adept at deep frying and salting everything as anywhere else.
