The Wii U hack doesn't actually enrich somebody's life or bolster the economy like that or something, which is why my metaphors are decidedly-different than yours.

People have plucked tech demos/school projects out and fleshed them out a bit to make them a full game, mods have being doing all sorts of things for some time and shareware was a thing in the 90's. I am going to have to suggest you revise your games industry model, of course you could argue that several of those things having been going on for years now make them traditional but err.... fight me now.
