Hardware ATI Radeon 7750 vs. GeForce GTX 550ti

I am about to buy a new GPU but I cant choose between Radeon 7750 and GeForce GTX 550ti. Both of them are good but which can I go for if I want to play games at max speed and graphics

Right now I have:
Pentium Dual Core E2140 1.60GHz
3GB RAM

Just between those two, the GTX 550 TI should be more powerful, and in addition will give you hardware PhysX (some games lock you to hardware or nothing, some let you do it on the CPU or the GPU).

Though some games may need a CPU upgrade as well in the future, if they have heavy CPU use. Your CPU's a modern one, but it's a budget model with a pretty low clock rate, less L2 cache, etc.

probably not unless you are playing at a low(er) resolution. you will need better specs across the board to actually run games at decent frame rate.

Only if you are playing at 480p. For 720p and 1080p you need higher end GPU.

Modern? It's 8 years old, and I remember the Pentium DCs have pretty bad gaming performance, especially at 1.6 GHz.

I think you may want to upgrade your CPU before anything else, my 6 Year old Packard Bell MB-88 has a better CPU and that wasn't even a top end even then (Core 2 Duo T8300 @ 2.4GHz)

If your out to cheap it out maybe look on ebay for a higher end Core 2 Duo / Core 2 Quad to tide you over but really you may just want to upgrade everything... A 1.6GHz Pentium Dual Core with only 1MB of L2 Cache well I would say that CPU is topping out with games from 3 years ago so if your gonna stay on that very poor CPU you can forget "Max Speed and Graphics" Those graphics cards would be frankly wasted with a E2140 running it and bottlenecking it...

Not to mention the games you mention...

You should really rethink things, I know I sound very harsh but in the end I am trying to save you time, effort and money

It's a bit less than 6 (the "pentium" in this case is just a re-naming of some Core 2s), but it will run more games than you might think, as the CPU power needed for games doesn't go up nearly as fast as the GPU power.

Tbh dude you would be throwing your money away if you was to get that GPU right now, Also do you know how many Watts and Brand your PSU is? I'm guessing your PC was a budget machine from a few years ago, Your PSU might not be able to power that graphics card

don't count on it for AC3, its not stable in itself. I have a 4670 GDDR3 1GB and both these games are playable for me.

As you can see, Nvidia is better than the ATI version BUT u you need to improve your processor if u want to have some stable speed. Ofcourse don't do it yet until u play the game and are not satisfied. I play all these games on a dual core 8600 so its not always the case with CPU.

Also i have a 450Gs and am using a 450Watts PSU so 500 would be more than enough.

I played Batman Arkham City (GOTY) and Far Cry 3 on Ati Radeon 2400 Pro (which is not a gaming card, I think) with the same processor and both of the games worked just fine. Just a little lag but playable.
