I'm wondering how the Mario Kart that is "pre-loaded" on the 3DS XL works!

MK7 comes loaded on the SD card. If you were to swap the SD card from the 3DS XL with Mario Kart and put it in another system before you ever turned on the 3DS XL/MK7 bundle unit, would Mario Kart then be bound to the second system instead - or is it tied to the system before it ever leaves the factory?

Tied to the system before it leaves the factory. The preloaded game is the same as if someone just bought it off the eShop. The game is linked to the single 3DS, and if you tried to swap SD cards it'd wouldn't run on another 3DS.

can you reload one such preloaded game if you deleted it?

also, i'd generally advise to stay away from digital content for the moment. if you have friends with 3ds's or family or something, a physical cart is still a lot better than a downloaded game.

The game is tied to your 3DS's eshop account, so if its deleted for some reason, you can just re-download it from your downloaded list.

so it gets tied the moment you create an eshop account?
what if its deleted before one creates such an account?
You don't create the account, the account is there when you connect online, the moment you enter the eShop it recognizes your 3DS plus account as it's tied to your system. You don't need a user name, password, personal info or anything.

The eshop account is already created with the system, the game is preloaded into that existing account and if the account is deleted so is the 're-download-ability'of the game. Pretty crap compared to an proper email address oriented account system...

Got a newbie question. I have the 3ds with fire emblem preloaded. If I buy a new 3ds in the future, what should I do to get it on my newer 3ds?

Yes, do a system transfer and everything will transfer over to the new system including FC, settings, saves etc. Once the transfer is over just pop the SD with FE into the new 3DS.
You can't transfer the game only if that's what you want.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way

  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
it says it only works for the original R4, R4i Gold (r4ids.cn), R4iDSN (r4idsn.com) and Acekard R.P.G.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:

Just give it a try, but honestly if you have a 3DS you can play DS games without a card just off the internal SD card
