So i've gone into a season where I play gba pokemon hacks on my psp pc master race now. Then I thought I may as well raise awareness for the great ones and not so great ones.
I rate hacks with pokeballs, my ratings may change as I play more hacks
5 star = 5 pokeballs etc etc
Currently playing: Pokemon Dark Rising
1. Pokemon Snakewood
I didnt think a zombie apocalypse pokemon game would be so good upon first hearing about it but I was so wrong.
Brilliant story, I must say this was one of the strangest and yet funnest hacks I have played, the scripting is on point, cutscenes and events flow perfectly and give a unique experience. The storyline is completely original and fun with loads of references to other things and worlds. Truly a game that keeps you on your toes. There are some puzzles and battles that are hard but it feels so rewarding when you complete it. Also with enough post story things to do, although the main storyline is way long enough anyhow. Packed with Fakemon and a lot of map changes. Defiantly worth playing.
2. Pokemon Light Platinum
Heavy Level spiking for a hard challenge, great original map editng Loads of pokemon to catch and loads of trainers to battle, you literally have like 7 rivals, with many appearances of every protagonist from every game up until Gen IV and even Ash Ketchum, however the wasnt much effort given to the main bad team and they're whole concept seemed rather rushed and could have been better done. An alright hack for those who like the classic pokemon structure.
3. Pokemon Chaos Black
You could say I'm quick to judge, and you' d be right.
I started playing and quickly realized the extent of change this game will have.
So they added their own fakemon and changed a few designs on the routes. Thats it.
This is my disappointed face ._.
It gets 1 pokeball for trying.
4. Pokemon Dark Rising (Current)
So far for what I've played, the scripting is nice, the maps are nice and its pretty damn good. I'm gonna enjoy this one i think. As far as I am atm, everything is quality, just lacking that immense creative spark that was present in my 5 stars for snakewood. But a close 4
Progressing further and yep, its still quite solid. Although the level curve is amazing, this isnt a game where you can have a nice rounded team of 6.
Nope I have 3 over-leveled pokemon and 1 who's just behind them. The rest cant keep up.
Upon restarting this game after being defeated by the level curve, I can confirm its pretty good
There are a few scripting glitches where the map doesn't add up and character event battles can be repeated but to be honest I used them to get more well needed levels because the level spikes in here are huge. Definitely worth playing if you crave a challenge because that's what this game is, a challenge.
5. Pokemon Flora Sky (On Hold)
Beautifully large and well done mapping so far.
(My copy of Flora sky was dodgy and kept crashing. I'll be getting a new one soon)
6. Pokemon Fuligin
This hack is generally quite good. The region is well edited, the difficulty curve isnt too big but big enough to warrant some grinding and VS seeker rematches. The story isnt too bad either, you end up joining Team Rocket. I've just joined myself so I'll see where this takes me.
The only problem with this hack is the map. The town map is sorta confusing and occasionally your icon will be in a completely different place to your in game location. This happens on some routes.
Mitigating circumstances have made me simply drop this game, there isnt enough keeping me playing it. Its good, but not great. Torn between 2 or 3 pokeballs rating

IMPORTANT:
1) For those who play pokemon dark rising.
If you see your sprite inside of a tree in the town leading to lavaburn path, dont click him. He'll crash your game on some emulators.
2) My pacing with this is completely random. I hit a big stretch of exams and exam prep when i first started this thread, but now my timetable is slowing down again so I may have time for more of this stuff.
