I just find that odd - but then I am cynical.

Why would you delay releasing a hack which - presumably - works ?

Why release a hack that will be patched in a day and forever lock out most people from being able to use it?
At least, this is the reason I assume they have. I'm not keeping up with the news until its actually released since I would rather a good hack than a rushed hack.

Or because of the mess fail0verfl0w had with sony - I would not blame them if they have second thoughts about releasing an exploit for a new console.

Or you know, they can just not announce one in the first place if all they were going to do is withhold it from the public. Why make announcements on major breakthroughs for hacking when you don't even release it? Talk about a cock tease.

This is what I think too, better to wait it out rather than Nintendo release a patch and ship that patch in with future shipments, thus the exploit would only work with the first ~5 million or so consoles. Like how Sony did with 3.56 or whatever.

Am I the only one who doesn't want the Wii U hacked so early in life? I want developers to feel comfortable with the Wii U instead of blaming low sales on piracy and crap. I want games, not never finished homebrew.

I want emulators for the Wii U, but game backups, I couldn't care less about so we can agree on that. Emulators won't hurt sales anyway, unless they're on the VC. I'd love to see a PS1 emulator on there.

Emulators = fine by me
"backed up" games = No bueno

I'm fairly certain EVERYONE has access to emulators on various platforms, why do we need them on the Wii U? Portability? There are phones that have emulators, tablets, can even hook a gamepad into nearly all smart phones.

I'm not denying that people have other means of using said emulators. Raw CPU power, having emulators not limited by the Wii's CPU. Emulators like PSX would run full speed with the right optimizations. That's why.

Not to mention other homebrew advantages is turning off that evil region locking. It needs to be done away with, it is is a bane and no one should have to buy a Japanese console to play Japanese games. DRM circumvention is also a plus, DRM/region locking needs to die. I hope you're not a proponent to such invasive measures like DRM or region locks.

Would it be possible that someone create an optical drive emulator(ode) for the wiiu like the xk3y for xbox360?

Potentially, if the communication protocol between the Wii U's optical drive can be decrypted, documented, re-encrypted, and doesn't require any unique data that's not feasible to feed back from a different device.

But as the system is that would only allow localized backups, region-locking and homebrew lockout would still be in play. You'd be feeding the system signed data still, and not actually modifying the OS to run unsigned things.

No. I kinda feel the way. I'm a bit afraid that developers will abandon wii u if it already gets hacked now. If i remeber correctly, i think I read an article somewhere where developers expressed their concern for nintendo due to piracy issues. The old wii and ds was cracked 100 % and thus giving piracy all access.
So if the wii u is already hacked now, who can blame the developers for leaving nintendo then.

But i will also note here that, I am actually a regular visitor here and read on everything regarding hacking for 3ds and wii u. And i havent seen it explicitly announced that the wii u is hacked.

Can someone link me to that article? I am not interested in those articles where they put out different riddles and clues. Just a plain fact

Because the Wii and DS died, right? They never got any good, official, first-party and third-party games.

It's not like they went on anyways to become the best-selling systems of all time, right?

Nope, piracy killed them.

Is that a reply directed to me? If so, then you are missing my point totally. Im not stating who killed what. I am merely insinuating that i dont blame developers for backing out, if they can see that they won't make profit of a game because of piracy.

In my personally opinion, i think that ds and wii died due to old age. The ds was released in late 2004 and the wi from 2006. I think time overran them. I own both a wii and ds, and by god I am not a saint when it comes to piracy. I am just concerned that if they release the hack too quickly, the developers might back out and resulting a reduced flow of games

You guys need to realize that piracy is part of the industry, not a detriment to it. I realize this will not be a popular opinion but it's reality. Piracy is not rampant nor does it harm anything as most people that pirate wouldn't have spent the money on the game/movie/tv show in the first place. This does not equate to a loss in sales. You can't lose something you never would have had in the first place. A study from Harvard has proven this as well as a couple of others.

As Rydian said, piracy isn't the reason those systems failed nor is it the reason why Devs ditched the systems. Read up on Nintendo and how they treat their third-party "partners" and you will quickly understand why those systems failed. The 360 is a highly pirated system and it is also an extremely successful one as is the PS3 though piracy is not to the extent as on the 360.

The lack of Devs for the Nintendo systems is because of the systems and Nintendo's attitude towards them. That is what happened with the Wii, but it had the nunchuck gimmick that got people interested. That is what is happening to the WiiU as well, but this time people are like "been there, done that" with Nintendo. They have an abysmal game selection currently and from the list that has been leaked there is only like 2 games that are worthwhile that will be released between now and next year. This is why the WiiU will fail.

I own a WiiU fwiw, so this is just as upsetting to me as it is to anyone but to blame a system failing on piracy is a load of hogwash started by the pr firms and movie execs to excuse away poor sales rather than look at their own inadequacies.
