A lot of games have pulled out recently.

I am glad to see facebook is getting rid of the crap.

Is it facebook getting rid of crap, games devs deciding it is not worth the effort if money is what they seek, the sign of rats fleeing a sinking ship or something else?
Similarly even if it is facebook getting rid of things I would contend it is a "cutting off the nose to spite the face" type routine: assuming they could clean things up vis a vis game induced spam (or whatever your reasons for disliking the present incarnation of facebook games are) how would losing games help them out in the long run?

Today's lesson: NEVER spend money on Facebook games.
In principle I can agree with that though surely there is the argument that for some the token sums they charge for various things may have otherwise been wasted on food outside the house, buying booze in a bar or some other frivolous thing.

Facebook need games, but game devs don't need the facebook (if they need, it is only as a ranking engine and nothing else).
The fact is that Facebook without games is Facebook without young people.

By the way, It is good to see that kids started to avoid Facebook, last year I could not imagine that at all.

Though I might like that to be the case lokomelo I am not sure games as have been seen thus far on facebook can exist in a vacuum and will often do far better if they come as an umbrella site. Given facebook has huge potential as an umbrella site and having a quick look around they offer a bit more than "just a ranking engine" ( http://developers.facebook.com/games/ ).

This is great news!
This could lead to the death of facebook "gaming"

Fuck yeah nothing I love more than killing everyone else's fun! I'm the life of the party!

God if someone enjoys what they're playing then why is it a big fucking deal. It doesn't affect your games.

Why does it need games, so people can incessantly hound me to play their stupid Farmville s**t to grow their crops or raise their "cattle"? No thanks, I'll just go back to playing real worthwhile games.

I couldn't give a tin schilling about their asinine games.

That's mostly a fallacy.
Let's assume that "spending money on facebook games" is bad.
Saying "the money could have been spent on worse" doesn't mean "spending money on facebook games" suddenly isn't bad.

Agreed but continuing with the assumption we can call spending on facebook games bad would that not mean in turn you should strive for peak efficiency and either "just what is necessary to survive" type uses of money?

That's funny, because I know more older people that play Facebook games than younger people.
Same.

You had me at "this could lead to the death of facebook" then you lost me again when you added "gaming".
I can't say I agree that the death of facebook would be a good thing. I only use it for the chat features, since everyone and their grandmother has it, it's the best way to chat with everyone, but I realize the other features of facebook are probably useful to everyone that uses it frequently. It's a great way to get in touch and stay in touch.

My daughter been playing Pet society for a long time along with her friends. Ok, I do agree with you that she's only 9 and should not be on facebook. But it's a nice kid friendly social game they must not shut it down :hateit:
