In an interview with EDGE magazine, President of Sony's Worldwide Studios for Sony Computer Entertainment Inc, Shuhei Yoshida revealed why PS4 title Knack was revealed first. Yoshida revealed it was a gesture to Mark Cerny who heading Knack's development. Revealing Knack as the first title was due to a desire to establish the PS4's aim in offering a range of varying experiences. Most telling of all was his remark of " We were like yeah we hate to see all the PS4 games being FPS or action-adventure or very photorealistic."

Considering Sony's recent stealing recruitment of Indie developers, it seems Sony seem to have a cohesive vision in what they want to the PS4. Sony truly are worse than the Mafia.

It seems Sony is taking a less hardware focused approach from the interview. It sounds like a good approach while Nintendo is trying to attract the "hardcore" player, Sony is doing the opposite. I hope I can see a more balanced market where you can find different kinds of genres in different platforms

This doesn't answer the important questions though:
Will it be able to play TV shows, watch movies, and toast my sandwiches simultaneously?
If the PS3 and its early models is to take into reference, the console can do the first two easily (Bluray, Netflix, etc) and the latter will be made possible via heat generated by the console and PSU. :creep:

More on-topic though, this is a typical PR stunt to appease the idiot masses. The PlayStation brand was never all about "FPS'es and realistic graphics", the PS3 had a slew of celshaded or otherwise "unrealistic from a graphics standpoint" games, it's just that its vocal haters carefully omitted mentioning them in their silly cursades.

So in other words, Nintendo and Sony have switched places?

I think it's more like Nintendo was too focused in the casual player with the Wii and DS while Sony was too focused in the hardcore player with the PS3 and PSP. They both realized that these approaches kind of limited their market so they are trying to find some sort of balance to attract both the hardcore and casual market. The 3DS had this exact idea in mind and many hardcore players were conviced to buy a 3DS instead of a Vita/PSP while convincing the casual player to buy a 3DS instead of the DS.
