Admittedly this is a UK issue, but if you have any desire to see the ultra rich policy makers realise what it's like to cope with normal problems then it doesn't matter...sign it and make the man experience a little reality!

Over here the support for those on a very low/no income was slashed yesterday. Now, i'm not personally in receipt of these benefits, nor do i know anyone who is....however, when politicians make life harder for the poor and give tax breaks to the rich whilst claiming that it's all fair then things are definitely wrong. Especially when they're effectively swimming in gold.

IDS (Iain Duncan Smith) claims that living on handouts is easy....i think it'd be interesting to see him try and even if this doesn't impact upon you just think about helping the little guy get one over on the "man" who's spouting rubbish.

Do eet...

Petitions like this really don't accomplish much, and it's doubtful he'd accept the demands even if it was a wild success.

It's a waste of time and effort - I guess you could say there are just no benefits.

I dunno. To be fair, in a little over 24 hours, its had 325,000 signatures. For here in the UK, thats a pretty massive deal. Agreed, nothing will get done about it, but its a massive kick in the balls for them politically. This is bad news for them thats spreading like wildfire.

I heard something about this on the radio earlier.... I am not sure a week would do anything and more is pushing it- it is not the week that does anything but the relentless grind and knowledge you have no fallback.

IDS would simply turn round and say something about how he was misinterpreted and so on - it's a fair cause but like Gahars said, there's no point.

In the process of moving my mum in with me, she's 61yo, disabled and living on her own.... last year, because she can move one of her arms, and her head left and right, she's considered fit for work and has been took off disability...... seriously unbelievable. One turned down appeal later and she's had to go to the job centre (retires at 62), who won't give her a penny because she's NOT fit for work! Thankfully I'm not in a position where moving mother in will become a financial burden, but there's doubtless many families who aren't as lucky. This is how a woman who worked nearly 15 years when she was younger, WITH her disability, gets treated..

The country is going down the shitter, but we can only blame ourselves for voting these plonkers into power.

Annoying thing is though, is that we didnt really vote them in did we. They were all equally as shit as each other and no one really outright won so we ended up with a coalition. Which means the british now get screwed over not by one party, but the joint ventures of two!

If you check how much media coverage this has received in the last few hours, and the number of signatories in that short space of time, it's already achieving something - putting pressure on IDS/the government over changes that are widely seen as unfavourable. If that pressure continues IDS is either going to have to suck it up and do it, deny everything and look like a fool (and potentially pave the way to losing his portfolio) or something inbetween. If this petition does continue to accrue numbers it's going to damage the already weak credibility of the governments economic masterminds...it's not really just about IDS living on the breadline, it's more to do with demonstrating that MP's can't just make ignorant fly away comments about decisions that can really impact upon lives. This and the "Bedroom Tax" are massively unpopular at the moment.

I signed this earlier. IDS has always been a walking political mess. Whilst this won't do anything, it will attract attention and put more pressure on the Lib Inconspentents. They've been a fucking disaster.

What makes IDS quite laughable is his father-in-law provides him with rent-free accommodation and allegedly has a significant amount of wealth available to him via complex family trusts.

So do politicians even survey the people's lives they affect on a personal level anymore? I would rather have these people shadow one of those affected by this rather than shove them in low income housing with foodstamps that has the potential to be a quirky reality show

To be honest, I have no idea what this is about, nor I care to find out. Therefore, I will sign for no reason. Goodbye, sir. If it benefits you, OP, than I guess I HAVE to do this action.

I'm sorry but I don't think people should get government benefits and spend their lives sucking off the teat of the people that do work and have the drive to do something with their lives. The only people that should get any gov assistance are the disabled/sick and the very elderly

The poor are poor for a reason. It's government entitlements that alienate people from work. I've seen it. Rather than go out and earn a living these people spend their time gaming the system. If you're down on your luck and you need a hand until you get back on your feet that's one thing but he socialist state is making people dependent while keeping them in poverty. It's undeniable that welfare and handouts are the worst thing you could possibly do to the poor. My message to liberals or socialists is stop strangling the job creators and then poor people will be able to find jobs

I consider people that spend their lives dependent on the government trained animals not human, defiantly subhuman
careful when you use a browser to auto-correct a misspelled "definitely". You may end up with a completely different word. Unless of course you really meant that. Either way... It can be pretty hard for some people to get back on there feet these days and I bet the government they have isn't helping enough in that regard beyond these meagre living wages.

Sorry for asking... but did petitions actually accomplish anything in like... ever ?
