Gaming Rock Band 3 import of songs possible?

Hello All,
I recently got Rock Band 3 and I was wondering if it was possible to import previous songs from other discs? Apparently Rockband 2 and Green Day are the only offically supported methods. Are there others? I am not pirating but rather planning on purchasing the disc on ebay or such then would like to use them on RB 3.

Also I saw something awhile back on using custom music with Rock Band? From what I remember it was only RB2, was there ever a update?

Yes it was updated. Search for RawkSD... but seriously... I have never been able to make the damn thing work... still waiting on the forums!

Well I think I got the latest version and will give a shot soon. If I get it to work, will let you know. My test will be getting RB2 songs riped to work in RB3. I just got a new unopened copy of RB2. I have the code to "import" but I figure this is a great way to test/figure out RawkSD

Ahhh then you are doing the exact same thing I was wondering. I can get both those game works on my real nand but only with normal sd card. If I buy the RB3 original CD and launch it with uloader in DVD mode but I installed the wad to unlock the DLC... can I use Rockband 2 with a SD card, load the sd card, unload it on my computer and use rockband dlc manager to put it in my RB3? Ahh posssibilities...

Yes I don't see why that shouldn't work as long as the rockband DLC manager works with RB3. All the ones I have found only mention RB2, and I thought I read they changed the DLC format in 3 so that the DLC Manager wouldn't work. I will have to test it now and see. And let me know if yours does indeed let you manage RB3.

Oh one thing I do know, the charting was changed slightly after, hmm Beatles? Or was it Green Day. Not sure which. Songs newer than that, don't work with RB2, but they will work with RB3 just fine of course.

RawkSD is a two part process. The computer program allows you to extract songs from RB/GH games in .iso format and places them into your SD card. The RawkSD Wii app is launched from the Homebrew Channel with the RB2 disk in the drive and brings up the extra songs on your SD card. Two other things that need to be done to make it work: 1) Take your Wii offline by deleting your wireless settings, and 2) Set the date on your Wii to 1/1/2000 (I think later dates will work, but do this just to be sure.)

There is a option to turn off internet without actually deleting all the settings. I also knew about the 2 step process (rip the songs with the windows program then use the wii app to install riped songs from SD Drive). I haven't had time yet to play around with it yet, I hope to in the next few days.

It's been a while, so I don't exactly remember why I chose to delete the settings as opposed to anything else. I know I tried blacklisting the Wii's MAC address on my router, but that didn't work. The date issue is related to the fact that the latest RawkSD was supposed to expire after 30 days or so and it used the Wii's internal calendar to determine when to expire. Also, the Windows program rips songs from any .iso files. I converted my PS2's Guitar Hero 1 and 2 disks to .iso with WinHIIP and extracted the songs to RawkSD and they work just fine.

IIRC, it was somewhat mid december 2010 and january 2011, but I'm not sure anymore. It was also the main reason I grew tired of it: you had to reset the date every so often.

If it's just for RB2 and green day songs, I'd go for rawksd 2. That doesn't have a date restriction. It requires the ripped songs on SD card, but it's manageable. A bit harder is that it MUST have a very specific IOS37 (version 3869) or it refuses to work (IIRC, both trucha bugged and with hardware permissions). Worse: the program that comes with rawksd (not the launcher) automatically picks the LATEST version from the servers rather than that one. That may be the reason why it's a good idea to block internet access once you've got everything set up and running. But I don't know if it's required.


Also...I haven't tested rawksd 2 on rock band 3. I'm assuming it works, as rawksd beta3 was (IIRC) released before rock band 3, and that works fine.


I hope you get things to work...but as the many "IIRC"'s point out, it's not a simple progress (I remember writing down all my issues and solutions in the rawksd thread...but it's so long ago I can only remember things vaguely).

Yes, January 1st, 2011 sounds very familiar now that you mention it. I don't recall the RawkSD thread as my issues were resolved on Ask GBATemp, which sadly isn't around any longer.

Thank you guys, I always wanted to try this but I thought it was too complicated, and I thought Rawksd was some kind of tool to import dlc songs only.
But seeing this tread convinced me to finally try it, and after a couple of hours of research, trial and error I was able to get to work rawksd 2.2, and then the 3.04 beta.
I must confess, it's a little redundant for me as I collected every GH/RB discs, but the idea of creating a playlist of my favorite songs from across every game and get it all in one place (RB2 ) was pretty darn intriguing.

MAJOR headache today to get rawksd 2.2 to work, after hours of research I found out about that iso 37 problem, and how to use dop mii to install the right version ( that rawksd tread is huge and it takes hours to navigate trough ! ) and the correct date to set my Wii to ( for me it worked December 2010, the 1/1/2001 date didn't work ) and finally place the right files in the right folders of the SD card.....but in the end, I got it to work.

I quickly realized that for the scope of the operation, and the number of songs I intended to import, my humble 2GB SD card wasn't gonna be enough.
I then decided to move on to the beta version, and although I liked the fact that you can boot the disc trough the application and start playing without installing the songs, when I found out that RB3 wouldn't boot I was turned off, but then I saw that it can store songs on the HDD and it was an instant win !
I only needed to reinstall a clean ios 37( done by rowksd 3.04 itself ) and re-rip that couple of songs I was testing, and it was smooth sailing.

I also tried to use the rawksd 2.2 imported songs with RB3, but they weren't recognized. Maybe I did something wrong, but anyway, at the end I settled with rawk3b4 and RB2 with the songs on the external HDD and I couldn't be happier!

It's only weird, and mybe it has something to do with ios 37, but the timing of the strumming seem to be slightly off after all of this, in fact, i played a couple of songs that I'm pretty sure I'm good at, and I made a lot of mistakes !

I hope a simple in-game calibration is all I need, if I had to re-rip every song and change the setting, I'd rather burn all my discs

Acutally I was wondering about that too.
In the Wii settings menu, there is only the option to turn off the 24 hours connect,not the internet altogether.
Maybe he was talking about some cheat in priiloader or something, but on my Wii, to completely disable internet, you have to delete the settings.

Anyway, to answer your question, I didn't need to disable internet. The only occasion in which you might want to do that, is when rawsd patcher tries to update ios37 ( and things go wrong from there ) but I didn't have any trouble when playing the game with the connection on.
Since I used Dopmii to do that, I skipped that step altogether and everything was fine.

Rawksd 3 beta did actually connect to the internet to update to a clean ios37, and it worked like a charm, but that's about it.

Interesting Arm, glad you had the time to test it. I just have been too swamped here to give it a spin, I did manage to read though the monster threads but still didn't find what I was looking for. The biggest thing I was interested in was trying to rip songs that could then be played on RB3. Currently I only have pro instruments except for the drums (I bought a never used set off of ebay and unfortunately the RB2 stratacaster had a defect (both blue button's didn't work but obviously were never used). Apparently a few people have ran into this. Anyway I ended up with pro instruments as they were on sale and of course they only work on RB3 (I have both RB2 and RB3). :/

Looks like the only way I can do this is is to go the custom song route. Also the date change aspect is probably something I couldn't keep doing as I have several programs that depend on a correct date or it will corrupt the save data.

Anyway thanks again for posting what you found (and that it works for you). I still might give it a spin if I get another guitar, but right now the 5 button guitars are more expensive than the Mustang? That one leaves me scratching my head.

Been on this for years. Without unpacked a legit RB2 or RB3 DLC and packing in custom data, you cannot get rawksd to work with RB3. Yes there is a screenshot of customs in RB3 with a unreleased RawkSD; however, we see that will "never" happen.

Yes I came to the same conclusion, I feared this after reading about Rawksd, but I wondered if there was a way to get it working anyway (a hack in a hack if you will). But it is obvious after Arm's testing (and a bit of my own) that altering legit DLC files is the only way to do it.

Did you ever rip songs and swap/alter a DLC in this fashion?
