Hi everyone!

Uhm, so, wow - it sure has been a long time since my last visit. Please be gentle, yoroshiku onegaishimasu and so on ^^'

I just have one tiny question for ya'll that I'm sure you'll be able to answer - again, for like the 100th time since I'm probably not the first one to come here for this :shy: And I apologize in advance if this has been covered in some sticky thread, but I just spent 5 minutes searching the forum and couldn't find anything about it

So, the topic says it all: I've got a softmodded Wii that uses ModMii and today, I'll be receiving my very first Wii U (Premium) :toot: Now, I've got a few VC and WW games on my old Wii that I would like to transfer (I'm well aware of the $1 re-purchase fee or whatever it was), as well as convert some leftover Wii-points into $$$. The thing is that while I have purchased most of my games (VC and WW, I mean), I do have one or two titles installed which got there through... other means

I'm sure I'm not the first one to be in this position and so I'm kindly asking for a resolution to my "problem". I just wanted to know for certain how to transfer all the content (that is legal) from my Wii to my Wii U, without getting into some kind of trouble along the way just because the Wii has been softmodded.

Thanks guys. And gals.

Well, I can tell you that I have a soft-modded Wii but with some actual purchased items from the Wii Shop, and while I couldn't transfer my stuff over under that context (due to errors), I was able to when I re-virginized my Wii. The transfer program will copy your legit games and such from the Wii to the Wii U if they are installed on your Wii, but if they aren't on there, the program still checks your account online based on your Wii's unique signature, matching it with the signature of your Wii U's vWii (or simply your Wii U), and transfers the appropriate information from one to another. It even transferred over a game I accidentally deleted years ago at the system root, making me unable to redownload it to my Wii, allowing me to download it onto my Wii U. By this method, you would have to redownload your games, but they will have been transferred.

I'm just one case scenario though, so maybe hearing what others have to say should be done first.

Kudos for the answer! I've got everything plugged in now and the GamePad is currently charging. I've got a birthday party that I need to attend to in 20 min, so I'll just leave everything as it is for now.

I'll boot the system up right away in order to perform an update first, though.

This thread may now continue to serve as a guideline for anyone who shares my concern for whether the Wii U would actually accept a data transfer from a softmodded Wii or not.

Because I have just successfully transferred all my Wii data to my brand new Wii U :D All I did was update the Wii to 4.3, since I was running on 4.1, and re-install the Wii Shop Channel. This was all done through ModMii. Then it was simply a matter of following Nintendo's own instructions: downloading the Wii System Transfer tool onto both consoles (straight from the Wii Shop Channel), preparing an SD card, transferring all the data to and from that card, and that was it.
I'll admit that I did erase the one WiiWare title that I had not paid for, though, before starting the transfer. Just to be on the safe side. But I left all my save game data and the tool didn't leave any of it on my old Wii.

Thanks again DiscostewSM for the answer :) Case closed!

If you did a NAND backup on your softmodded wii you could restore that to get your old stuff back on you old wii so you have it on both systems.

The only issue with doing that is if you go back in to the shopping channel on your old wii it will enable the DRM and make your purchases unplayable on the old wii. They would still work on the wii U andyou can restore your NAND again to get them back if that happens.

I had a 4.0 softmoded and did this:

Made a nand backup.
Updated wii shop channel with wad manager.
Downloaded transfer tool from shop.
Followed nintendo instructions.
Done.

I didn't delete HBC or other channels.

Now that we have HBC and vWii on Wii U is there a guide yet as to the best and easiest way to do this? Cuz I'm thinking of using Wii Backup Manager to transfer all the Wii games to PC as ISO's and then what?????
