I got the R4i 3DS Gold card (r4ids.cn) and I was just wondering....

I want to get Pokemon Y this year and just have a few questions:

- Is it guaranteed that the next firmware update will patch said flash cart? (If not guaranteed, are the chances really high?)

- If the next firmware update DOES block the flash cart, will the team who makes the carts (from r4ids.cn) release SOFTWARE updates for the card, that would allow said card to work on the next firmware update? Or would I have to buy the 'next card' (Like, I know they release physical updates of the carts, such as "A" "B" and "C" etc.)

Thanks guys!

We won't know for sure, tbh. Just assume that every update will attempt to stop your flashcart from running. Same with revision of card. It's impossible to know now. I suppose all you can do is hope for the best but prepare for the worst. Or get a DSTwo *damn I jinxed it didn't I?*.

Thanks for the reply. That vaguely answered my question(s) but I was expecting something more....... answering-my-question-y.

If anyone claims to know the "definite" answer, he is probably lying LOL. So that's the most accurate answer anyone can give you afaik.

Thing with the cart revisions with the last update we had is that not all were compatible. No one saw that coming as we had always assumed that the new > old which is not exactly true in that specific case.

Nope. Thanks for the smug answer. He just didn't really answer my question first time around.
Yeah he did. He said we don't know for sure (which we don't since we can't see into the future), and then said to assume that every update will to block flash carts (because most of them so far have).

Dude, okay let's get this straight.

Nintendo will likely release a firmware update in the future.
Said update will very likely attempt to block flashcart.
Flashcart company may try to release patch to circumvent anti-piracy in firmware update.
Patch may or may not work on various versions of flashcart.
If it works, then good. Otherwise, wait OR get a new cart.

That is all there is to it. I don't know why you are getting so flustered over us not guaranteeing it. Heck, I believe even the team wouldn't even know unless there are some mole(s) planted in Nintendo's R&D etc. We've seen enough people asking questions about futureproofing that it has made us cynical. Your demands are equivalent to asking what specs the successor of the 3DS will be or if it is backwards compatible with DS and 3DS games.

We. Don't. Know.

For example the Ak2i did. Past-tense. They used to, they stopped because the cart could no longer hold all the data needed. even if they wanted to, they could not make an update because one won't fit, and we didn't know about that last update until it happened.

Well U'm new to the 3DS-life, so I hope I can be the exception and not be yelled at for asking a 'noobish' question (not that you're yelling at me, you're not. - I just didn't understand your answer earlier)

This one cleared it up though. I appreciate it, thanks dude!
