I felt pretty empty after she died, they show her in all the trailers and then she dies.

Oh wait. I felt pretty empty before she died too... weird.

So how exactly is that different from any other JRPG?

It's not. It just has a not-so-shit (but still rather flawed) battle system and a lot of content (by that I mean the same three quests reskinned for different areas multiple times).

Of course by "young male JRPG protagonist" you mean "whiny, useless little brat", right?

#Shulk_is_Shulking ;O;

He just kinda feels like a piece of styrofoam with "protagonist on it". Like he's unrealistically nice and trusting of fucking everyone. Like multiple times the girl he just met (Hatsune Miku is her name I think) runs off and the entirety of their situation depends on her. And he goes "DON'T WORRY SHE WON'T LET US DOWN." You just fucking met her and you're entrusting the entire progression of your journey on her? Okay. Not to mention he just goes out of his way for fucking everyone to kill their monsters, save their children, wipe their ass. Like people complain that Cloud was a big rain Cloud but at least he wasn't pissing rainbows and vomiting sunshine.

He kinda falls into like the Vaan era of JRPG protagonists. Not so cocksure annoying like Tidus, not so broody like Cloud and Squall. He's just kinda the protagonist.

The game also seems to shed its skin of "no guys we're not a standard JRPG!" as the game progresses. Characters become more cliche, even the art gets retarded. It goes from like this pseudo-FFVI steampunk to basically just every stupidly glowly sci-fi JRPG a la FFXIII. Plus now for some reason all my armor makes my character just look like fucking Tidus.

Are you just going to keep trudging through it to the credits? These descriptions are hilarious.

On one hand it's enjoyable in some odd sense. The combat is relatively exciting and its not excruciatingly bad like FFX. On the other hand its such a generic JRPG that is incredibly overhyped by its fanbase purely for the fact that its a Wii RPG. Put this game as it is on any other console and it'd be so dwarfed by the rest of the RPGs in their library that you'd feel bad for it.

I'll probably play it until I beat it or until I suddenly lose motivation. Plus it'll be nice to have beaten the game and point out its flaws just because people here think I'm ignorant to the whole game. Now I have it under my belt.

I'm pretty sure I have by this point.
That explains it. You haven't beaten it, which is why 3 of your points are wrong. I won't spoil it though.

Btw, I had 170 hours on the game before I beat it (I'm a completionist, and there are hundreds of missions), and there were still a few missions that I couldn't beat because the monsters were so %*$#ing hard!

It's ridiculous how long it takes for the story to really start developing, but overall it's worth it (there are a few jaw-drop revelations). However, if you don't have the patience for something like that, it's not the game for you.

I think that's less "The player isn't patient enough" and more "The developers don't know how to properly pace the story" actually.
