As you may or may not know, Valve's been planning on entering the console warfare as of late and they partnered up with a company called Xi3 to make that dream a reality. The result of this partnership is the "Piston" - a high-performance Steam-compatible gaming "console" which is likely to dominate the living rooms of Next Generation Gamers.
What's so special about the Piston, you ask? Let's start with the fact that its design is modular - this allows gamers to improve upon it as time goes by unlike with normal consoles. All it takes to upgrade the system is unscrew four screws, pull the old motherboard out, put a new one in and you're set for another generation! Of course, the base built is pretty impressive as it is:
  • 3,2GHz AMD "Trinity" 64-bit CPU
  • Radeon 7000-series GPU
  • 8GB DDR3 RAM
Impressed? You should be - this build allows players to enjoy the latest games no problemo and has you covered for quite some time. Seeing that it's Steam-Compatible, you're also covered on the games front already - great! Want HD? How about HD on three separate monitors? Because you can do that! You're going to say "This thing must be huge!" and you would be... wrong - it's about as big as two cans of coke. As you probably noticed, the system has no visible disc drive... that's because there isn't one - all games are Digitally Distributed which means that you can put your disc shuffling days behind at last... you weren't going to be a DJ anyways. Did I mention that you can upgrade the Hard Drive to SSD? You can!

Truly it is the ultimate - this hardware is going to push gaming to the next level and it's all for a measily $1000 dollars. Pre-order now for $900! Would you like to upgrade to SSD? Do so now, it's just $340 for 256GB and $750 for 512GB!

$599? That's nothing - Chad Warden wipes his ass with $599. This is the real deal!

I guess they just couldn't handle the Piston's raw power... ;O;

Still, the product we're getting is the fruit of their passionate partnership - you can almost feel the Gabe emanating from it...

"Valve began some exploratory work with Xi3 last year (...)"

...that sounds very sexual, Veho. :creep:

I like it !
I've read that it will run on linux, but you can install windows on it, in fact it's just a PC and you can do anything you like with it !
The motherboard is split into 3 square parallel pieces, so if you want to replace just some of the components ( GPU or CPU ) you just need to swap the old one with the new one, but as pointed out, this little box will have you all set for years to come !

The whole system is so tiny that you can actually mount it on the back of your monitor with some screws !
Also there are plenty of USB, HDMI and VGA ports in the back.

I'm really excited about this, I think I might be getting one !

Or you could, y'know, build your own PC. :tpi:

Those specs, at that size, and that power consumption? Good luck with that.
Oh, so now we care about size and power consumption when building a gaming rig PC. Okay, I didn't know that, I thought we're going to connect it to a display and never bother with it again.

Damn people, you and your size/power consumption woes.

But what about the Wii U with its slim design, power consumption of 33 watts and pure high-end gaming horsepower? ;o;

...actually, scratch the last one.

Well, for all intents and purposes, it'll manage to stay afloat specs-wise...

...for about 3 years. ;O;
