Is it too late to chip in to the Red Orchestra? Because I want to add the world's tiniest violin.

I don't know, expecting casual FPS players to pick up something like RO2 seems like an uphill battle no matter what the popular franchise of the day is. Casual players are going to be casual.

I think COD has ruined a generation of gamers, IMO
I thought the first 2 games were ok, but I don't play them anymore
And the ONLINE, my god is that place horrible...
Did you that I am a fag because I play Nintendo and not COD
Quality over redundant shit is what I play (looks at avatar... ok you got me there!, but otherwise)

While I am not a fan of COD for it's simplicity this guy can't be serious when he says Killing floor was hard. Hand cannon head shots rule that playground to the point it almost feels like cheating. It's still more fun as a multiplayer experience though.

I'm guessing whoever said that is a die-hard Counter-Strike fan?
Nope:
interview said:
Players like Elliot [Cannon, Lead Designer] and I, back in the Quake and Unreal days, you know, we had to get good at aiming.

As to the interview...it's interesting. On one hand he says that FPS'es are getting better, on the other that they're ruining a generation. It's clear that he and his team had a terrible experience with the testers. I don't think it's fair to draw such a conclusion based on that, though. As said: casual gamers are going to be casual.

I understand that it opens up a can of whoop-ass if you say that CoD requires no skill, but as a game developer, you really need to be above that "my game is hardcorerer than thou, lolololol" trope. Red Orchestra has a learning curve. If it's too hard for CoD-players, then get yourself other testers. It's not as if there aren't any gamers left who like their games to have things like a challenge...or a learning curve.

Funny. And there I thought that regenerating health and carrying two weapons at a time were introduced in Halo, not in Call of Duty. People are quick to blame Call of Duty for all that's "wrong" with FPS'es these days when more often than not, staples of Call of Duty were introduced in other games.

Call of Duty is loads more popular than Halo. More people play Call of Duty. Call of Duty is what casual gamers expect out of a first person shooter.

I think we have a different definition of "casual".
Yet, most people that I know that play FPS games are casual gamers... You know, those people who buy whatever shit is popular and only play those games when people visit their houses. Funny thing is that they're all those grown men who likes violence and stuff not that girl/kid stereotype people have from casual gamers. Many people prefer some casual local multiplayer fun than an immersive single player game or an every day online competition to try to be the best at the game and I particularly think that an easy to play FPS is just perfect for casual gamers

Funny thing, the few friends I have that are hardcore gamers prefer a Wii or a PC over the PS360 anytime. :P

To me, casual gamers are the ones who play stuff like Assassin's Creed, Madden, Gears of War, Call of Duty, shallow stuff like that. Just because you dabble in Angry Birds while sitting at the doctor's office doesn't mean you're a gamer. The term gamer shouldn't be used to describe anyone who's ever played a game, it should be someone who actively plays video games, whether they're "casual" (stuff like Call of Duty) or "hardcore" (stuff like Monster Hunter).

Where in the article does he even SAY anything about Regen Health and limited inventory?

If you've played Halo CE, you can clearly see its version of regenerating health was MUCH different then how they do it now. The shield system made sense because of how enemies in Halo fought much more aggressive and in large numbers rather then 4 or 5 at a time in a drawn out gun fight.
Not to mention it was coupled with an actual static health bar.

Two weapons at a time made sense because Halo didnt weight itself down with 50 weapons and about 40 of them are the same gun with minor changes. Convents had weapons that were LIKE the human weapons, but they didnt ACT like them. You actually had to think, "Man, I want to pick up a needler, but what if the next area is open and I need my Sniper?"

Its possible to use good mechanics in a bad way.

I don't much care for Modern style of FPS as someone rightly pointed out some of the mechanics being brought in by the Halo franchise.

I just cant stand hiding behind yet another grey wall while ketchup clears off my screen while I wait for my balls to grow back xD
I would be much happier if a few more developers took a few more tips from Croteam with Serious Sam 3: BFE, which is Not every FPS needs to have Regen health and 2 weapons :/
