The game is said to feature pirates and will be cross-gen (available on current and next-gen platforms) like Watch Dogs. The screenshot above is supposedly of the game running on the Xbox 360.

I don't think that'd stop them from pushing four more before summer. Probably a little ways down the line though. System in place, they just need a new skin, and vola! New game.

They're milking this series to death now, it seems.

Milk a cow as much as you can before it dies, I suppose.

Yeah I didn't mind the environments of the previous AC games but this seems pretty fucking stupid considering we all know what happens in the end.

Like pirates? Really? I'm also completely confused on how this lineage works. So Altair's lineage eventually leads to an Italian named Ezio. That eventually leads to... a fucking pirate. That eventually leads to a Templar. Who then leads to a Native American.

I doubt the pirate story will relate to any of them. From what I understand, the story of Desmond and his ancestors ended with AC III.

Pirates are about as far away from assassins as you can get.

Why not throw in vikings while you're at it? Or decide that Desmond's heritage now includes an M1 Abrams tank? If you're going down this path, you might as well commit to it wholeheartedly.

To most of the comments above in regards to too many AC games, I agree with you, but, Ubisoft announced that they would be pushing out annual releases for Assassin's Creed at E3 2011.

Since then, they've kept their word. I personally think they should invest more time into making an all around good game instead of rushing out half-assed titles yearly (like ACIII).

I would shell out another $60 for M1 Abrams air assassinations.

Semi-pun semi-on purpose.

Like I think the franchise is really full of potential but they need to ditch basically everything. Like set it in a different setting, lose the framework bullshit plot about aliens and modern day crap. The series was originally designed as a Prince of Persia spinoff (think Devil May Cry to Resident Evil). Why not have something in like Egypt or something? Why not one in feudal Japan? Hell, modern day? The future? World War II?

Now this is almost falling into the comedic "thousand versions of Batman" territory. Can't wait for Assassin's Creed V: Caveman Carnage and Assassin's Creed VI: AC Noire.

Seems a bit early to me. AC3 was just released.
They released an Assassins Creed game every 1,5 year I think? This isn't surprising, they sure as hell are working on a sequel, probably even a sequel to that sequel too.

I don't mind, I still like the games. And I'm a really big sucker for pirates and everything around it. Yes please, Black Flag

Seems far too early for a numbered sequel. Between II and III it was 3 years. I recall them saying that after III there'd be a much longer wait for the next game.

Either way, I'm still willing to believe this is a hoax of some kind

Wasn't ACIII made just to make the Desmond's saga end before the Mayan end of the world-theory? If that is taken into account, there has to be a new AC game (IV) to take the next step with the new main character in the modern day.

Desmond's story is done. There will be no more Desmond games.
But they introduced a system that allows them to use Desmond's DNA without him in III.
The star of this game is Edward Kenway, Connor's Grandfather. Altair, Connor and Ezio are NOT related. They stem from different lines in Desmond's ancestors, hence Desmond being so important. They do this with Desmond's dad probably since Connor was an ancestor of Desmond's dad while Ezio and Altair were ancestors of Desmond's mother. The setting is actually pretty good and harkens back to Part II where you traveled between the cities by ship. Only that you steer the ship yourself now, like in III.
Ever since II they release one AC game per year. usually in October...
