Has anyone made a hack or softmod or whatever which would allow you to return to the Wii Menu (or at least hard reset/power off the Wii) via Gamecube mode?

Hmm, Sneek+DI + DIOS MIOS with padhook (poweroff/reset button combination patch) enabled... After pressing the combination it returns to Wii Menu (EmuNAND). With real NAND I suppose it's the same if your Wii Menu it's the first thing that boots after power on. Some people change to other settings like booting at first the Homebrew Channel or BootMii, etc..

Yes, the DIOS MIOS WAD overwrites the original MIOS but it's not a big problem because you can re-install the original MIOS anytime.

I got 2 more questions (1 related, 1 unrelated).

If I overrwrite the original MIOS with DIOS MIOS, then will I have any trouble with launching some games? (ie; some work, some don't)

And for the unrelated question, how can I delete my history of recently played games on the Wii message board without formatting?

If launching retail disc GC games from Disc Channel with DIOS MIOS installed, there's no problem with compatibility. If launching GC games (ISOS) with i.e. Wiiflow via USB, well, GC games with Audio Streaming (Wave Race Blue Storm, Eternal Darkness, etc etc), or games that use the microphone ( Mario Party, Odama, etc) will not work or will work with issues.

Your unrelated question I cant really answer correctly, I thought formatting is the only way but maybe someone know how.

Here is the official DIOS MIOS compatibility list:

Ok so let me get this straight. I need to patch MIOS DIOS with padhook? And as long as I use retail games, then I'll never have a problem?

Thats right.
Just to clarify, DIOS MIOS has the padhook patch, no need to do anything, just enable it in the loader (wiiflow, usbloader gx, etc) and when you want to reset or power off just press the button combination. When booting retail disc via disc channel just press the sequence as mentioned.

Reset/Power off via button combo (R + Z + Start) (R + Z + B + D-Pad Down)

How would I go about reinstalling the original MIOS? Just use Muti-Mod Manager and install the wad? It will automatically overwrite original MIOS without anything special on my end?

Yep, just reinstalling the original MIOS will overwrite DIOS MIOS without nothing special.

And I would suppose likewise for the opposite. How would I go about backing up the original MIOS?

OH, and which program do you recommend me to use within the Homebrew Channel that allows me to change settings within' MIOS DIOS?

Use NUSDownloader (PC app) to download the original MIOS. IIRC you can dump it with Multi-Mod Manager, but it's easier if you download it directly with NUSDownloader.

Wiiflow all the way.. has a lot of settings to play with.

Ok so I'm going to assume that all I need to is open up Wiiflow and it will have the options I need.

By the way, what are the risks of bricking things with DIOS MIOS?

AFAIK nobody has bricked a console or anything by installing DIOS MIOS... The only "issue" (that's why I use Sneek+DI instead) is the wear and tear of the internal NAND by installing and overwriting WADS over and over... Though electronic parts wont last forever...
