so i was busy completing Sonic All Stars Racing Transformed and then i realized, "this is a pretty decent mario kart clone" which quickly turned to "wait... i think i'm starting to like this more then mario kart" to "OMFG I'M SUCH A SEGAFAG DREAMCAST4EVER AFJEQTHJIQEFNHAORFOKJ"
but i do have some legitimate reasons why i prefer this over mario kart, and let me explain why...
- SASRT has much better variety of characters then some of the new Mario Kart games
i know a lot of you will bitch at me for not liking Dry Bones, or whatever obscure mario enemy they shove into the roaster because there obviously running out of playable characters, but i like the line-up they have for Sonic All-Star Racing and it isn't JUST sonic characters either, they have tons of others that span Sega's history. Maybe cause i grew up more with these Sega characters i was able to recognize and appreciate characters like Alex Kid and AGES which is why i like it so much, even though they added weird and completely unrelated characters this time around like Danica Patrick and the guy on the cover of Football Manager, seriously...?
- better power ups
i can probably go on about how insultingly game-breaking the blue-shell is, it's that cheap. the best part is SASRT doesn't really have a power-up like that, unless you count the little RC cars but they act more like red shells, they also have a catcher's mitt power-up that works like the tanooki tail in MK7... except it actually protects you from shit instead of taking up space and and having to block incoming attacks manually, and in general the power-ups just feel a bit more balanced then mario kart
- they take advantage of the multiple-vehicles gimmick much better then MK7
i can't be the only one who was disappointing about how MK7 handled the whole vehicle shifting thing, it was just mostly "i'm in a kart lol" then "cool, i'm swimming/gliding.... oh now i'm a kart again" for every lap and thats it. SASRT on the other hand does this much better cause not only does your vehicle change, but the entire layout of the level does too, like you'd be driving for a lap or so and suddenly you reach a cliff or a huge monster breaks off part of the track and then WHHHHHAAAAAOOOOOOOOOO I'M FLYING/IN A BOAT, THIS IS SO AWESOME!!!!
did i mention you actually fly in SASRT? you don't just glide in one direction for 3 seconds
so yeah, this game has definitely given the Mario Kart series a run for it's money, but i'm still hoping that nintendo does something interesting for Mario Kart U, or whatever there gonna call it
also Diddy Kong Racing exists and both of them ripped it off, there... you happy?
