I have and LOVE my DSTWO. I have the newest firmware and might upgrade to a 3DS XL. I know 3DS games dont work as roms, but am excited for some of the great games coming out. But I do know the DSTWO can run on the 3DS. Now my question is...with both the DSTWO and 3DS being of newest firmware would there be ANY chance of the 3DSXL bricking? And can I still update the DSTWO on the 3DS system or should I keep my DSIXL?

And if the 3DSXL can brick what kind of precautions would I need to take?

wow so it was all just a rumor? Thats great news. Guess theres absolutely nothing to worry then then huh?

Does the analog stick work as an alternate to the d pad by any chance? That would be great for games like Mario 64

It does, but it still only functions like a digital 8-way dpad for DS games. It definitely feels better when playing games like Super Mario 64, but it doesn't change the control to "true" analog, if you know what I mean.

It does, but in most cases using the d-pad is still better. The games just aren't designed to work with the circle pad (not that they could anyway), and it feels like using a more inaccurate version of the dpad.

Yea I get what you're saying. This just all sounds good. Is there ANY downside to running it on a 3DSXL? Display any different or difference in compatibility.

3DS and 3DS XL are both fully compatible with DS software. The only exceptions are games that require special peripherals that just don't fit the 3DS or 3DS XL, such as Guitar Hero.

Thats fine as I dont play any of that stuff. I see the screen cuts off a little bit on the sides but doesnt seem like that big of a deal. I did a little research on here and few other sites. I read that the 3DSXL overheats with the DSTWO or something? Any idea what that mightve been about? And compared to the DSIXL, how is battery life with or without DSTWO.

I've never had overheating issues on either of my two original 3DSes, or my 3DS XL with the DSTwo, nor have I ever heard of such an overheating issue. Battery life is abysmal with the DSTwo on any DS or 3DS system because of the extra onboard RAM that's continuously running, even when it's not running. So you're best bet is to remove the DSTwo from the cartridge slot whenever you're not using it. Then you won't have issues (except that running DS ROMs from the DSTwo is much more battery intensive than using actual DS cartridges).

Also, I've never owned a DSi XL, so I can't speak for the battery life in comparison to the 3DS or 3DS XL. (3DS and 3DS XL are the only DS systems I've ever owned).

Haven't heard of heat issues either.

This has some actual tests, the DSTwo's drain isn't nearly what people make it out to be.

Also "sleep mode" on the DS doesn't exist. When you close the DS it tells the game to pause and shuts the screen off, so it'll still drain the battery no matter what you put in there.
In my case, the DSTwo still drained the battery pretty quickly even when completely closed (unopened, on the 3DS home screen). Before I knew that there was any battery drain from the DSTwo, I would keep the DSTwo in the slot, turn on the 3DS in the morning, put it in my pocket, and take it to school. Without fail, it would die in about 5 hours... and that's without having ever even touched it or played any games on it after turning it on!

Yeah, the DSTwo shows up as a DS game, so the 3DS powers it the whole time.

I can put my DSi into "sleep mode" with SoulSilver in it, and it's dead in the morning. :\

Really wish the DS had an ACTUAL sleep mode, like the PSP and such.

I have seen people saying that when you have the 3ds in actual sleep mode the SCDS2 will drain your battery life, for example you're running a 3ds game from the SD card and you have the SCDS2 in the cartridge slot, the flashcart's RAM will drain the 3DS's battery even if the 3DS is in actual sleep mode. I don't have a SCD2 so I can't confirm but that's what I heard anyway

EDIT: Didn't see the last two posts above

Not if the game is closed. I regularly leave my 3DS XL on overnight with a DS cartridge in the slot, but not playing (using sleep mode on the 3DS home screen), and It'll last for a good 3 or 4 days before running out. Heck, I just did that a few days ago.

That's actually the only reason I've never bought a SCDS2. But the other cards keep getting blocked, damn should have kept my DSi.

You can get an R4i Gold, too. They update at the same speed as the DSTwo. I'm actually thinking of grabbing one pretty soon. (I don't pirate anymore, but I still like to keep a good flashcart on my for backups and other stuff).

I got a R4i Gold recently and lucky me got an faulty Rev C card with Metroid Icon (One that can't be updated to work in recent 3ds firmwares)... I sent them back to get a replacement but it will take a couple of months :(
