Many gamers who enjoy the Nintendo Virtual Boy are quick to come to the same conclusion, the second generation of software may very well have saved the system. An interesting debate among the Virtual Boy community involves the discussion of which unreleased and prototype games may actually exist. Three of which have made their way to the public as ROM releases, and two of them can now be purchased as reproduction carts. These two games are Bound High! and Space Pinball, and both include a box, manual, and everything you would have expected from a retail release. The price for these collectibles are $75 a piece, with most of that cost going into the final product. Please see the links below for more information on these games and where to purchase.

" with most of that cost going into the final product" < ----How do you know this?
Basically, I'd like to see the PCB to see why the seller set the cost so high. Honestly, it seems quite a bit overpriced...

Short runs of custom boxes and manuals can be pretty pricey (more than you'd think), but having built repros like this before, I can guarantee that costs don't come anywhere near $75.

Hello qwertymodo! I know of you from nesdev, so I pretty much know you are aware of what it costs to produce a repro. cart. The intention of my last post was really to make a point, by asking a simple question. This thread sounds like an advertisement, more than a announcement, which always activates my spidey-senses. I start asking myself questions, such as, I wonder how many copies the person saying this stuff received for their *announcement*? No offense Another World, just a sixth sense I've developed, since the internet is full of angles, and people looking to exploit others.

I was agreeing with you on it being overpriced, but at least they went to the trouble of printing manuals and boxes. I'm not uber anti-repros like a lot of the nesdev regulars, but yeah, it's an artificially inflated economy due to the fact that most sellers operate in the same price range, and most buyers really don't understand the actual value.

I can appreciate this for the nostalgic aspect for collectors but how large of an audience will be willing to pay that much for these carts? Even collectors of all things Nintendo or consoles/games in general considered this system a bastard son of Big N. Even though the games were never released they are still copyrighted. Might as well just buy (or make your own) VB flash cart to run these on the hardware or just play them in an emulator because it will be illegitimate anyway.

Sorry if this came off as trolling!

i am an active member of planetvb, a very small community, and i talk with those involved with these projects pretty often. i know how much it cost to produce the Face Ball carts that are no longer being sold. If anything, they are perhaps making $10-20 off these, and most of that probably went to getting the PCB's from the UK or finding VB dust caps.

I wonder how many copies the person saying this stuff received for their *announcement*?

i post news because i have something to share. i get absolutely nothing out of this. if anything, i get the satisfaction of bringing the virtual boy into the spot light for a few hours. i truly love my vb, i think it is one of the most unique systems i have ever used, i will promote it as often as i can in the hopes that perhaps some developer out there will consider making a new homebrew for the system. the vectrex has more homebrew than retail games, i would love for the vb to be that way one day.

Sheesh, post awesome news about a cool new development on a retro system, and people imply that you're just being a salesman.

Welcome to the temp, AW. :\

they are just questioning my motives and perhaps recalling the rule of the temp not to advertise. the issue with this news is that if i linked back to the planetvb post, then it would pretty much lead to the ROM, which is hosted there. so instead i decided to keep it more legitimate by linking to the online shop for the game.

The question being: who actually possesses a Virtual Boy ?

More seriously though, that's nice I guess, but the only game I enjoyed on that console is Virtual Boy Wario Land.

So, rather than linking to a site that releases the ROM for free, you link to a site that puts that ROM in a shiny box and sells it for profit... -_-

Just sayin... *shrugs*

The first is illegal and GBAtemp doesn't host or link to illegal things.

The second is legal, it's a repro with the rights.

I would say "You must be new here," except your avatar says you've been a member here since 2010. Did you seriously NOT know about GBAtemp's rules against linking to ROMs?

*Double facepalm*

I'm well aware of the rules. I simply find the double-standard ironic.

The first is illegal and GBAtemp doesn't host or link to illegal things.

The second is legal, it's a repro with the rights.
Unless they actually got permission from the original developers, as well as Nintendo, repros are still illegal, and IMO worse than ROM distribution, since they're actually profiting from them.

Indeed, that is what I am wondering about. Did they get the license from the rightholders?
I do not see why Nintendo should be involved, though, unless you count stuff like design trademarks on the cartridge shape or something like this.
