Please forgive my ettiquitte if I have strayed from forum protocol. I am not a frequent poster, although I did do my due dilligence when searching for an answer to my question prior to posting.

I am the owner of a "Metroid" r4i3DS card. I recently accidentally "successfully" formatted my card using the latest patch available for the DSi/L/XL. There was another poster who did the same thing and ended up with a different Dorasu icon than the one listed in the compatibility index of thumbnails found on this site. I am in this boat.

My question is this. I noticed the lastest update available on the r4ids.cn site is for NDSi/L/XL only. The one prior to that (released on the 6th of Janaury) lists support for the 3DS, but only for revisions C, A, and 9. Does anybody know which revision the "Metroid" card is? I checked my purchase history and I ordered the card on September 30th of 2012 (if this is helpful). Is this the "few older revision cards", or, "some revision C" cards" they are referring to in the description?

I have a NDSL that I believe can salvage this card once a patch is made available that my card will work with. Am I correct in this assumption?

Thank you in advance for any help.

The latest update is for the 1.4.5 update for the DSi/XL, that's because the DSi/XL series has it's own separate updates that block flash carts.

The Metroid card is marked "C" as well, but there's obviously different models using the "C" label, thus the confusion. So it's part of the "some revision C", if it won't take the normal updates.

Yes, if the update comes out you'll be able to update it on the DS Lite.

sorry when you say formatted do you mean bricked the card? or Flashed sucesfully to 1.4.5 update?
metroid icons are revC but had a bug so they currently cannot work on 4.5.0-10
but should still work on 4.4.0-10 and 1.4.5 using the latest update
there still working on a patch for the metroid and 1.4.5 cards

Well, I'm not exactly sure what the definition of bricked would be if this can be recovered by using a NDSL (which I have). But, for all intents and purposes, it is indeed "bricked" on the 3DS as it reads the card (the odd Dorasu icon), but I get the "Error", turn off power message when I boot it.

Does that answer your question?

No problem, it's always nice to deal with somebody who did a little reading before posting.

That just means the 3DS's firmware is updated far enough to detect the R4i Gold and refuse to run it. The cart works, but the 3DS knows it's a flash cart and will refuse to run it until you get the update (which changes the fake ID the cart gives the 3DS to one that still works, so to speak).

From what I have seen r4ids.cn has been pretty reliable in supporting their cards. I know you can't tell the future, but given your experience with this site and these types of topics in general, how long do you estimate it will take before there is a fix for this? I can wait, but I'm ust genuinely curious.

Bricked = Doesnt even load on a DS Phat or Lite
Blocked = not updated to work on teh consoles firmware but will boot on a NDS Lite or Phat

the icon doesnt matter as long as it boots on a DSLite or Phat as thats a working header for the card at least

well if its blocked it means you can still apply an update on the card using a DS Lite
which is good, just going to have to wait
ive asked the team if they could release a patch for Metroid C, 8,7,6 rev cards so they can atleast update to 4.4.0-10
and always then switch between DSi/XL or 3DS 4.4.0-10 compatibility
as they cant seem to get past it

Given my situation though (updated to 4.5.0-10), even if they released a patch to enable Metroid cards up to 4.4.0-10 it would be useless for me correct? I might have misinterperted your post though. =\

I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't one. When an update is possible and easy, good teams like the R4i Gold and Supercard team will often put out an update within a few days, sometimes 24 hours.

However it's been 50 days since 4.5.x came out.

This shows serious difficulty in updating, generally when this happens to carts it seems to be about the amount of free space for updates on the the cart itself (as most carts store updates internally, not on the MicroSD, and space it very limited).

This article has some info on how flash carts are detected and how they get past it on the DSi/3DS, nowadays it's the same sort of thing, only not just the header is checked (so a cart can fake the same game, and still bypass a new update).

Metroid was 4.4.0-10
but 6,7,8 never where compatible

for your card to work on a 3DS running 4.5.0-10 you will have to wait for them to release a patch for the Bugged Rev C cards and apply it on a DS Lite or Phat and it will then work

its just a waiting game
