I support this.

I lead quite an unhealthy lifestyle myself - I drink energy drinks on a daily basis, I smoke regulairly, I'm in love with fast food and there's one thing I hate more than anything - people patronizing me about it. I enjoy it, give me a break. I know it's not healthy - you're not Columbus if you tell me about it repeatedly.

There is a world of difference: You acknowledge that stuff's unhealthy. She (and the Fat Acceptance Movement as a whole) does not.

I don't think they're all collectively retarded - most probably just don't give a f*ck about the adverse effects of "overeating". Moreover, whether someone's "chubby" or "not" is often a matter of metabolism as well as underlying health conditions, like PCOS. My metabolism is incredibly fast so I can stuff myself without "visible consequences" - others are not so lucky, but they're still welcome to do whatever they feel like with their life.

Of course I don't mean to say that it's alright to become a whale - there's a limit to how "chubby" a person can get before becoming physically ill. A balance is always best.

You give it far, far too much credit.

The problem is, this is a movement that encourages a sedentary, unhealthy lifestyle, promoting it as unchangeable and perfectly natural. They actively discourage attempts at a healthier lifestyle. To say this is dangerous thinking is an understatement - it is deadly.

I was lead to believe that the Fat Acceptance Movement's main task is to change attitudes towards obese people, and that's a "good" thing. Discouraging a healthy lifestyle is a bad thing, I'll give you that. ;)

The stated goal and their actions, unfortunately, do not match up. Simple "fat shaming" isn't good, sure - but neither is taking the opposite extreme position.

To conclude, forcing healthy or unhealthy food down someone's throat is equally nasty, we should acknowledge the adverse effects of unhealthy food, opt for healthy food when possible and at the same time do everything not to infringe upon other people's right to eat whatever the hell they want.

Good. B-)

Agreed - as long as it's not veiled as some sort of vengeful protest, of course. That would be silly.
