It kinda feels like an end of an era seeing THQ go this way. They've gone from being a publisher who I absolutely hated to bits for their terrible licensed titles on Nintendo platforms, to being a notable publisher who tried to put quality over quantity. They even cancelled a lucrative Avengers game.

Today a auction was held for it's licenses and studios and here are the results.

Ubisoft now has the rights to South Park and THQ Montreal. Oddly enough they have Patrice Desilets who worked on Assasin's Creed & Prince of Persia Sands of Time for Ubi.

Crytek now owns the Homefront series.

Koch Media have Volitian (Red Faction, Saints Row) & the Metro series.

Sega have Relic (Company of Heroes, Warhammer & Homeworld)

Take Two have now got Evolve.

Sadly there will be lay-offs at Vigil who did the Darksiders series.

No news of who has the rights to Saints Row, Darksiders etc at this moment. There is a rumour going around that Take 2 have bought the rights to Darksiders but didn't want Vigil. Also a rumour is going around that EA has the lucrative WWE series.

Enjoying the hell out of Darksiders II. Pretty much one of the best (and most interesting) franchises in a Warhammerish universe. Sad to see the team going into parts..

Hopefully the new owners make the best out of the newly acquired IPs and teams!

Darksiders is not part of the Warhammer universe. :wtf:

This could make for some interesting things. Definitely interested to see what Koch Media (they own Deep Silver as well) will be doing.

Hopefully we will find out what the rumblings about Doublefine doing something were about as well.

Wait, you've been player Darksiders II and "enjoying the hell" out of it yet you believe it to be part of the Warhammer universe?

Oh yeah.. My bad.. Somehow it was mixed with another game in the universe (Warhammer: Age of Reckoning (WAR)). Odd.. Though Darksiders has always reminded me of a kind of crossover from the Warhammer Fantasy Battle and Warhammer 40k (well technically it's the Chaos factions in both universes/time frames). Great games nevertheless! :3

Details, details.. I should have phrased the lines a bit better. Sure you don't have elves, dark elves, chaos, empire, etc as factions, but the world in question is very warhammerish :I

I would assume Koch also buys the SR franchise as well, but if not, that would really suck.. It's too bad that Clearlake offer got denied..

And I guess the Darksiders franchise is dead as well, if no one buys it..

I heard South Park Digital Studios was objecting to the sale of the IP, but I feel it's in good hands with Ubisoft.

Unsurprised with Crytek owning Homefront as they were developing Homefront 2 anyway. Although I think the larger mystery is why anyone would want Homefront as an IP.

Wouldn't be surprised to see EA take WWE and put it in EA Sports. It's rather profitable and it's really the only wrestling franchise out there of note. Since wrestling is so character-focused, no one would really want a wrestling game without their Rock or Cena.

Darksiders, kinda disappointed if no one wanted Vigil. Not that the first game was great but it seemed like they put a lot into the second game. I haven't played it but they changed it a lot from what I've heard and they really had a passion for it. I hope they reform under another studio.

Relic is extremely popular just for Warhammer. The shit sells.

Koch Media publishes games under Deep Silver which published STALKER so no real surprise they nabbed Metro.

I'm just glad that South Park was purchased, really one of the games I'm super hyped for this year.

This is all kind of said - it's like seeing vultures peck at a corpse on the side of the road.

Well, I hope the franchises and developers end up in good hands. I'd hate to see anything worthwhile fall through the cracks.

To be honest Relic going to SEGA was one of the best possible outcomes to happen. I've had nightmares at the though of EA touching any of those IPs/dev teams ever since THQ mentioned money troubles and I'm not even that big of a CoH/WH40K fan. I'm not sure on how I feel about SR/Red Faction going to Koch Media but there are far worse publishers out there.

I also hope that Saint's Row will be able to survive this transition, I hope that all of the franchises will be able to survive the transition. And I hope and pray that everyone that will be laid off will swiftly be able to find another position somewhere else.
