Not wanting to miss the band wagon, it appears LacklusterBlockbuster UK are also unable to survive the current climate of the entertainment retail sector, and have publicly disclosed that they will also be entering administration. This latest revelation shows another 4,190 jobs are at risk.

"We are working closely with [Blockbuster UK's] suppliers and employees to ensure the business has the best possible platform to secure a sale, preserve jobs and generate as much value as possible for all creditors," said Lee Manning, from Deloitte's Restructuring Services practice.
"The core of the business is still profitable and we will continue to trade as normal in both retail and rental whilst we seek a buyer for all or parts of the business as a going concern.
"During this time gift cards and credit acquired through Blockbuster's trade-in scheme will be honoured towards the purchase of goods."

I was a member of Blockbuster, once. Like most other members, the thing I remember most fondly is racking up fees for not returning my DVDs and games on time, then not paying said fees and not informing Blockbuster when I moved home. Good times. :tpi:

I actually liked going to the video store to rent games. I mean if there was a game that I was unsure about, I'd rent it. I didn't have to buy it like now. I was also able to find a bunch of games that I never even heard of until I went there. Super Adventure Island, Illusion of Gaia, Goof Troop, Chrono Cross (I never heard of the Chrono games before then) and it being a whopping 4 discs (I think, or 3, can't remember) and me being wowed.

I still have memories when I was a kid and me and my mom and sister went to Rogers Video (canada) in this one spot and looked at the wall of Super Nintendo Games. I wish they'd come back but specialize in a game renting place instead of movies. I don't want to have to buy a game because I have to. And as I'm getting older, I'm realizing more and more, to never actually trust reviews of games or review sites, and to instead just try it myself.

Come to think of it, maybe if we all paid our late fees we could save the company!

Just like if people didn't steal pick-a-mix from woolworths it would still be in business?

:rofl2:

Though I was not the greatest fan of their aggressive moves against choices video I might have to have a little wander down if they should do a last minute sale- the ones around here had inadvertently become some of the best second hand games shops around.

I miss Choices, I used to rent consoles every now and again and they always came with a good game for very little to pay plus they had the more obscurer titles and some imports.

There's three near me and all are closing down in Feb with huge sales, these places are great for picking up really cheap stuff.

The great thing about Choices was that you always found them in smaller towns and villages. We had one just down the road a few years ago, so easy to just nip down and rent a film or game. Blockbuster were generally only found in the bigger towns, usually a 10, 15 or 20 minute drive for me.
