While Microsoft had been previously beating out the Playstation 3 for many years, it seems the tables have turned, as the Playstation 3 has surpassed the Xbox 360 in worldwide sales.

In a report by the IDC, a total tally of worldwide sales of the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 puts the Playstation 3 now at 77 million sales and the Xbox 360 at 76 million.

The Playstation got off to a notoriously rough start, launching at a $599 price tag. In recent years however, Sony has implemented some drastic price cuts and redesigns of the console to help close the gap.

I wonder, is that sales figure for the 360 including the new consoles people had to buy because their old one RRoD'd?
Seriously though, the PS3 is a pretty cool console, especially with PSN+ if you ask me. I'm not sure how it compares to the X360 as I've never used one, but whatever. The sales numbers are pretty close anyway.

It accounts for every sold Xbox 360, so yes, any bought to replace a RRoD'd one. However that's not counting if you sent it to Microsoft under warranty and it got replaced.

It's just pretty noteworthy considering there was a really noticeable gap (like upwards of 20 million units) between the two systems and now they're not just neck and neck, the PS3 is leading.

Sales of the new console in the U.S. in the first 41 days after its Nov. 18 introduction were more than $300 million, while those of the original Wii were $270 million at the same point after release

ok I talk about ps3 now. The wii is easier to hack without having something big to buy first to hack it and there are lot of good games and the ps3 also has great games.
