There was that rumor that EA had some kind of conflict with Nintendo, over the possible creation of the now Nintendo Network. With this, and the stripped down versions of games like Madden, the rumor could be somewhat true.

In the end this doesn't say much of the Wii U capabilities, or the third party support from OTHER companies. EA is quite a big publisher, but not the only one.

TL;DR: EA is being a dick.

Edit: couldn't find it in these forums, but this was the rumor I referred:

"EA’s support for the Wii U console dwindled, and instead of supporting the console with lots of titles, EA is so far bringing only three games to the Wii U: Madden NFL 13, Mass Effect 3, and FIFA 13. The rumor also mentions that EA has no intentions of really supporting the Wii U in the future, and will only release ports of other titles without any real budget. This appears to be the case with Madden NFL 13, which was recently revealed to be missing key features on the Wii U version."

Because of how radically different the Wii U operates it will take a lot of effort to port games for it, crysis is heavily polished for the 360/PS3 because in the end the sales will make it worth the effort. Wii U's market is still unknown since it's a brand new system.

Effort means that it costs developers money and time to rewrite a TON of code for their games to run and take advantage of the system, as already stated by other devs with they need to make a game for it from scratch to take advantage of the hardware. (This is coming from every dev with a devkit) it's hard work.
Right now the WiiU ports out there are subpar because of this, developers let their B-teams make rushjobs so that if sales bombs they won't lose much. I believe once the other systems are out and developers see their games bringing in profit for being on the WiiU we will start seeing more multiplat games.

Well, EA probably hates nintendo atm, they wanted to route all nintendo network's data trough their own servers (at least I read that on tweakers a while ago).
But anyway I hate EA. I don't want Origine on my pc, so I'll skip Crysis 3 (at least legaly)...

The only way for a market to grow, is to make games for it that people want.

But again dude, the WiiU ports aren't subpar at all. Already been through this.

Anyways, this is just EA being a dick. EA has always looked at Nintendo as never being a serious contender or gaming machine (I wish I could find that article where it was quoted them saying it). They simply just don't like Nintendo at all. They treated them bad the entire time on the Wii. EA's Frank Gibeu needs to get his head out of his ass otherwise his company is going down under and he'll be the one to blame.

That's the problem, Nintendo must do everything they can to bring in the general gamer audience, they can't do casual games as they aren't that profitable anymore according to Iwata. The move they did when they decided to co-develop Bayonetta 2 was just because of this, since 3rd parties won't do much in order to make the market grow Ninty has. I see them continuing to slowly build relationships with companies and just like with ZombiU and get more exclusive content that way.

And about the subpar thing, most games have good playable ports and the differences are unnoticeable really, but there is still a reason why there are differences in the first place.

Right, except every third party developer has said they'd want to work with Nintendo, but it's the publishers. And in this case, EA is being too thick headed.

And the differences thing in ports? Like what? Examples.

There's a difference between wanting to work and doing what they think is good for their business.

Differences such as some lower quality textures, lower framerates at times, small things. I don't own a Wii U but there's enough articles comparing game versions out there for me to believe it. Blops2 had some problems with the campaign I remember reading. I'm not saying that this is the case with all ports, some.

And yes EA is a dick too.

*1 year from now*

Whenever we benchmark a system, we ask one simple question... "Will it run Crisis 3?" - the answer here... is "No". R.I.P WiiU, you had a good run... ;O;

...seriously though, is Crisis really that good? I haven't even played the first one yet. :P

Well a lot of people have pointed out how "different" the infrastructure is from the Xbox 360/PS3 so I'd say that's a big part of it.

Not that the Wii U is bad or anything but the devs for Crysis 3 have said they're using like "97%" of the power of the Xbox 360 or PS3 (might want to fact check me on that one though) so most likely porting it to the Wii U would be quite a pain in the ass and take a lot of development time and money, particularly with a game so built on a PS3/Xbox 360 infrastructure.

There's probably no "business drive" because with the costs it'd entail and the relative newness of the system, it's hard to see if it'd be worth the costs. Not really a sign of anything honestly.

It's only one game, but Batman Arkham City is an amazing port. The graphics are a slight improvement over the 360/PS3 versions. There is only one glitch that I know of (an occasional problem with the radar not being accurate), which is impressive IMO. For a ported launch game is usually a disaster.

Besides Black Ops 2, what games did you read were sub par?

It has nothing to do with power.

Cost of development > Potential Profit. That's as simple as it is. Crytek doesn't want to publish a game on an unproven platform that has no guarantee of selling well. And considering Nintendo home consoles since the N64 are known for having shit third-party support, this should come at no surprise.

Yes it is a sign. It is a sign that EA will end up loosing out on a lot of potential customers. While currently it may not be as large a group as Xbox & PS3, I firmly believe that the audience will continue to grow. Let them loose out while other companies that actually want to make money and new exciting games continue to do so instead of just the usual EA ports. EA just wants to make easy money instead of really investing in it with original quality games.

Nah, people that like Crysis most likely already have a 360, PS3 or PC that can run the game. I honestly doubt porting to the WiiU as well would provide a significant boost in sales.

What game actually was on par or an improvement then?
I mean Assassins Creed 3, Ninja Gaiden, ME3 had some stuff as well.
Just look at them reviews man.

And let me be clear, subpar is a strong term, what I mean by that are side by side comparisons done by tech people. It's not something that the general consumer notices.

From what I've read/seen:

Batman Arkham City: is alright for the most part but had some framerate issues which wasn't in the 360 version from Ashens' video.

Blops 2: has some frame rate issues probably from the porting from I think EDGE magazine. Treyarch apparently did an admirable job in this port.

Assassin's Creed 3: Perfectly fine/ EDGE.

Ninja Gaiden 3: Improved from the original but the original was a fucking mess/the entire world

For the most part, the ports were alright bar relatively minor issues.

I remember at E3 2011, EA were on stage with Nintendo presenting the Wii U and bragging about being a major third-party supporter. E3 2012, where the fuck were they? It's patently obvious that something went off behind closed doors that caused EA to throw the teddy out and decide not to support the console. My theory: EA caught Ninty in bed with Ubi.

You got a good chance of buying a used one and asking the seller how often they used or even ask for a Pic of fw and telling them not to update

Speaking of PLaystation. I see Evilnat put out a beta for PS3 CFW 4.91.2 on the 22nd.

Don't really see the point in updating it tbh

Yea you right, I thought about updating my PS3 CFW to 4.91, but why really, everything plays fine now. I guess for people that have already updated past 4.9 it would be helpful.

Thats true, personally I don't play it online at all, in fact, I deleted all wifi details on it once I installed CFW, so it won't connect and auto-update itself
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I play most games that are on both PS3/360 strickly on the 360, but PS3 exclusives are really only games I play on the PS3 (You know me, I'm more of a Xbox junkie)
