Google Maps + Webcam Feeds

Because of a security vulnerability in the Trendnet software, users can get access to live home footage without a password, reports the BBC. "Lengthy lists of freely accessible video streams are already circulating on the web, providing views of offices, living rooms and children's bedrooms," notes The H, a web site on online security.

The California-based Trendnet company—whose motto is "networks that people trust"—is scrambling to release software updates to fix the problem. Thousands of cameras may be affected, and the company has known about the issue for weeks, a spokesman admitted the the BBC.

inb4 pedobear.

The irony of the situation is amazing.. also, how did this shit happen? Was it a hack/exploit? Looks like Trendnet didn't secure the actual page, probably just some login screen.

@Andim: Now that I have read your post once more, you shouldn't have told me that (I don't whether you was boasting, gloating, or whatever) it just gives me an impression that you can stalk me anytime you want to. Not to sound all too whiny about it but now it makes surveillance security a joke!

Glad I do and it has an activity light so I know when it's active.

Depending upon the vintage of the thing it can as as simple as a GUI selectable software setting to disable the light.

Anyway in some ways I thought the prevalence of NAT kind of prevented much of this compared to earlier times. That said when I do try out some of software that comes bundled with security cameras I install it does often make it but a few steps to sort a dynamic DNS and more out.

Yay! It's like Big Brother! Now we can go there and be bored by genuine reality footage of people doing nothing with their lives instead of carefully faked and utterly useless footage of pretend people doing nothing with their lives. Living the dream!
