So this is what happens after gun control. Knife control. Little swiss army knife control.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...g-penknife-car-use-picnics.html#ixzz2G46Rx6vy

Prosecutor Philip Sewell told the court that Knowles was stopped by police when he left a pub on February 24.
He was arrested for suspected drink-driving but a breath test showed he was under the legal limit, the court was told.
But Knowles was charged with possession of the knife, which was found in its pouch in the car glove compartment.
Mr Sewell told the court: 'He told officers that he had the knife for caravanning. He is not working and had no malicious reason for carrying the blade'
Defence solicitor Jolyon Tuck said Knowles, who is a carer for his wife, had used the knife to cut up fruit on picnics with his wife.
'He accepts it was in his car and the law is very clear,' he said. He admits possession of it and he had no good reason for having it.'
Chairman of the bench Robert Horne ordered forfeiture of the knife and £40 costs to be paid.
He said: 'There is no previous conviction history whatsoever and it was not in his possession and was in the car glove compartment in a pouch.'
The retired maintenance engineer, from Buckland, Devon, had no criminal record before the case.
He said: 'The tool was in my glove box in a pouch, along with a torch, first aid kit and waterproofs.
'It is everything I need for the maintenance of my car or if I break down.
'Now I have a criminal record for the first time in my life. I am upset by that.'

That's retarded - it's clearly not a combat knife, it's not even a knife-knife, it's a utility tool. Wouldn't blame that on gun control though - the UK did go through a big media fuss over knifings, so increased knife control is to be expected in that country. Remember the commotion about CO2 injection knives, commonly used by divers to fend off sharks being used in knifings, causing instant death?

You're kidding, right? I have a fucking gunblade on my wall and nobody ever bothers me. Although to be fair you tend not to piss off people who have razor sharp Lionheart replicas for obvious reasons...

What the fuck is this shit? Knife control is good, but this, is taking it a bit too far. If Swiss army knives are "illegal", what about fruit knives? Butter knives?

You know...

They make designer tin foil hats now...

What's "tin foil hat" about it? The guy didn't even have it on his person. It was in the glove box of his car, in a closed pouch, and they still prosecuted him for possession of an offensive weapon, pursuant to "knife control" legislation. It is what it is.

That's not the point though - your gunblade is unwieldy as a weapon and you're not carrying it around, that's what makes the difference. Still, it is a silly decision.

Swiss army knives are considered "offensive weapon(s)"? I have a couple and they're like the most non-threatening thing ever. Hell I think a butter knife is more threatening.

That is correct - by the time you pull out the small and petty knife portion, your "victim" will manage to run away... or finish a game of Solitare. That, and stabbing someone with a penknife entails a danger of actually harming yourself, since the penknife may very well close on your hand under enough pressure.

Actually I HAVE used it in battle before. Long story short, someone broke into my place and threatened me with a knife. Clearly didn't do their research and paid dearly for that mistake. Don't worry, I didn't kill anyone. Just gave him enough of a cut to make sure he doesn't piss me off again, in self defence of course. Funny, I haven't been broken in to since. The police were called by my neighbour, saw that I had a sword on my wall with blood on the tip, didn't say a word. Never had any trouble with them. The only downside to wielding the Lionheart in that particular engagement is that it's a bugger to clean. Ever tried getting blood off a bright blue blade? Not as fun as it sounds.

....It sounds like the courts in the UK are a lot more corrupt. Seriously, it sounds like it was part of his emergency kit.

Hell I carry around my switchblade or my Buck knife wherever I go. I don't play with it or bring it out unless I have to. This is just taking it way too far.

Also, he wasn't impaired, so why did they check his car? Last I checked, don't cops need a warrant before they can search your shit?

Last time I checked courts enforcing laws is not considered corrupt. That's not to say that I think the ruling in this case is slightly ridiculous, but it's far from the definition of corrupt.

I think if they have what they define as 'probable cause' that some sort of crime is about to go down, they can search you, I'd assume that logic applies to vehicles too, otherwise the officers you see on shows like Road Cops would have a bitch of a time. They still need some supporting evidence to back up their case of probable cause though. For example, if I get into a street fight and they see me reach for a bump on the back of my jacket which may be a concealed weapon, that's probable cause to believe that I'm armed and that shit's about to get real. I don't see any way they could have had probable cause here though. If I were this guy I'd fight this to the bitter end because I'm pretty sure that search was illegal, and even if it wasn't I fail to see how a swiss army knife is in any way dangerous. The only way you could hurt me in a knife fight with something like that is if I literally split my sides pissing myself laughing at how feeble it is. If he'd had a machete or a butcher's knife, fair enough. But I kep my multi-tool (cheap ass swiss army knife) on me at all times, it's a handy bit of kit for emergencies. Gonna prosecute me too, narks?

You're sure as hell fucked if you pull out the can opener instead of the large knife. Corkscrew however is the fastest and most gruesome thing to pull and attack with.
