Probably the fact that it's not Megaman...
I don't get it.
Mega Man Original
Mega Man X
Mega Man Legends
Mega Man Battle Network
Mega Man StarForce

All of these have their own Mega Man in them, besides Mega Man Zero and ZX series...

The people who truly enjoy Battle Network are the ones who were introduced to Megaman via the GBA or DS... Battle Network is a travesty.

Megaman was born a side-scrolling platformer and that is where he shines. The 3D and "grid-battle" games are a perversion.

I like all the Mega Man series actually, and I have played all the games in each series. I know side-scrolling is awesome and all, but I don't see how the others aren't great either.

Battle Network is awesome and one of my favorite games. That said, it's completely different from the 2D sidescrolling Mega Man games and it's probably best to see them as a different franchise entirely.

I'm convinced it got the Super Mario Bros. 2 treatment... Totally separate game that they slapped an arm cannon on to try and boost sales...

Yeah, pretty much. That doesn't automatically mean the game itself sucks, though.

I didn't know Megaman Battle Network was so hated. As someone who grew up with the original series, loved it, continued with the Megaman X series, and again loved it. I was unsure what to think of the Battle Network series when it first released. However, upon playing the first game for the first time, I too love that series. No, its not a side scroller, if your problem is that its not like the original games, then I guess that understandable, but me personally, I like many many genres of video games, from Mario to Halo, and everywhere inbetween I'm willing to give every new genre a go, and gave a go I did to battle network. For what those games are, its a fantastic series. People that hate the series just for the sake of hating it, seem like game hipsters to me, its pretty pathetic to see. But whatevez, haters are gonna hate I suppose. I'll give this game a try for sure, bet it will be a quality one too.

There is only one issue I have ever had with the Battle Network series. This is not apparent in any of the older series because it just doesn't happen. For anyone who has played the Battle Network series, you realize that the story is derp. Starforce is even worse. It's like...introduce character, then beat a boss related to character, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat, oh hay, almost the end of the game, repeat.

Everything in the X series made sense. Shit goes wrong? SIGMA. Someone get killed? SIGMA. People going maverick? SIGMA. You blame one guy because he is the biggest, baddest, almost fucking unkillable sonofabitch in the world. But examples above, who do you blame? You blame every single character who eventually becomes an ally because they were too fucking derp to handle their own problems themselves.

The ZX series I can sort of live with. At least the characters aren't complete retards.
