I have a DS Lite with a R4 card, works fine, no issues. I was planning on getting a 3DS XL in a few weeks and I figured my R4 wouldn't work on it. I was trying to decide on a new R4 card to get that would work on the 3DS XL and my DS Lite. I can't seem to figure out what the difference between the R4i Gold and R4i SDHC is. Any advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If you're going for a r4 cart, the best one around is the r4i gold 3ds from r4ids.cn. If you're getting one, make sure it's the one from that website. It's updated quickly to support newer dsi/3ds firmwares (that usually blocks flashcarts). It is also officially supported by wood r4 firmware, which updates fairly quickly to support newer games. It's fairly cheap, too (usually around $15).
If you're willing to pay twice as much, you can go for a SuperCard DSTwo. Updates are also quick, and it runs on it's own firmware (EOS), which has just as much compatibility as wood. But what makes it pricier is all of the extra functions it has: a gba emulator, ability to create save-states, free-cheat, etc. If you're fine without those, you might as well buy the r4i gold.
Just a note of notice, keep your ds lite after getting the XL. You'll likely need it to update your flashcart's bootloader, so that the cart runs on the 3DS XL.

I didn't realize that the SDHC was a clone card, they had it and the Gold for sale on realhotstuff (where I got my R4) so I figured they were just different models from the same company. Is there any downside to the SuperCard DSTwo? Will I be able to transfer my game saves from my R4? Thanks for the quick replies!
DSTwo uses the same save format as most flash carts, and even if your old R4 doesn't support that format there's converters out there.

I'm still trying to decide which card to get, but I'm leaning towards the R4i Gold mainly because it's cheaper and I don't really think I'd use the extra features of the SuperCard. Are these cards here legit or should I only buy from the sites listed on r4ids.cn?

R4i gold 3DS from r4ids.cn. I have recently purchased mine, and had to actually swap my first purchase which was the r4isdhc(not wood R4 compliant). I bought my r4i gold 3DS from V2watch.com, it was $10 and some change with free shipping. took 11 days to get to my place in KY. hope this helps.

Many fakes work fine but a R4i SDHC 3DS is a fake. Even the R4i gold 3DS is not a original one but it has a good support (although they have some problems with the firmware update atm). But the Supercard DSTwo is the best flashcard for the 3DS.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better. -

I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way
