Gaming Question about Wii Repair

Recently my softmodded launch Wii got fried by a young cousin shoving a GC power adapter into the back and plugging it in. It no longer gets any power from any cable and needs to be repaired. I'm going to send it to Nintendo soon with no warranty so I'm going pay for repairs. I ask the guy if softmodded Wiis still get repaired and he said they may return it to the default state or refuse to repair it. Now, he does not know my Wii is softmodded but I would hate if it was refused for repair to where I can never get it fixed. I would like to know if anyone has sent their softmodded Wii in for repair? or what is you guy's opinions on it getting repaired? What are my chances of them catching the softmod with the issue I have? Any opinions for thought will be appericated, also I have sent my bricked Wii in for repair and it was repaired but this was back before the HBC was even released.

For the price of that repair you could probably get a used Wii. Are you just hoping to rescue saves?

Yeah, I've heard of people sending them in and they refused to repair it. The only thing is, though, that since it has no power they might decide to fix the power supply first and making enough other repairs to it to get it running before even testing it for unauthorized software. At that point, when they detect it's been tampered with I wouldn't know if they'd put back your toasted parts and send it back to you without charging you for it or if they'd leave it as is at that point (working or not) and just send it back to you charging you for what repairs they DID do.

There's no way, of course, for you to do this with your Wii as toasted as it is but ...

The last guy I saw ask this question had a much simpler problem that he fixed on his own and never actually tried sending it in but it was suggested to him that his best bet was to make and install a clean NAND dump with these tools

and then maybe play some retail games with it or something so it doesn't look quite so suspiciously clean and do an online update so it will overwrite your BootMii (assuming you have it as boot2)

...Anyway

accepted for repairs or not, if you did send it in and it came back in even semi working condition, the guys that made the HBC I'm sure would be REALLY interested if you made a NAND backup as soon as you got it back and sent it to them to see what they can learn about their unauthorized software detection process.

Well, them repairing it before they test it for unauthorized software is what I'm counting on but like you said, they may throw the destroyed parts back in and send it on its way. I guess all they can do is say no then i resort to buying one from the pawn shop or off a friend. Nintendo did mention that a problem like mine may not be able to be fixed in that case he had me pick which color of Wii they could replace it with and they had the Limited Edition Mario Red Wii and i chose that one. So, I guess 1 of 3 things can happen, no repair and I buy new or used, they do repair it send it back and all is fine or they can't repair all the damage and send me a nice new red Wii. Thanks for the responses guys but i'm still looking for someone who may have tried this already, so keep the posts coming.

Why would you send it into Ninty when there are several local places that are just as knowledgeable and not as discerning? You're in US, right? Hit up eBay, my friend; you'd be surprised. There's bound to be multiple hardware repair shops that are familiar with your specific issue and won't care if they receive a soft-modded Wii.

If the part broken is indeed the power supply, they will not go out of their way to check NAND contents before they power the device on. They likely won't swap the just-replaced power supply either once they do manage to boot it... However expect them to format the system in the end. Technicians are just humans - they will not do anything beyond what is required, they just come in for their paycheck, but they will obey regulations and remove unauthorized software upon its detection.

Negative. Third party repair places (in the U.S) will not reformat a Wii if it is not in their work order and/or scope of operations.

oh so the wii isn't a more powerful gamecube afterall like everyone has been saying?

anyway if you send it to be n they will charge you A LOT since it's been soft modded they will fix it but just charge you a lot.

If its not the power supply (fuse is inside the grey block)
Then you will have to open the wii and test the fuse on the main board (next to the power connector - labelled F2)

Its not the power supply, it has to be a fried motherboard or something. I have multiple power cables and none will power it and the power supply reset will not work. By the way, a GC power adapter does work on Wii if you shave some of the plastic off and plug it in backwards. My small cousin is a bit too young to know the difference between systems and there power supplies so I can't really blame him for just wanting to play a game or two. Money also isn't the issue and if Nintendo doesn't repair it for any reason I am definitely going to send it elsewhere. As foxi4 mentioned I don't see them going out of there way to check all nand contents before repairing the issue, my only problem with that, is if they check the nand after the repair will they put the fried parts back in or just leave it fixed? has Nintendo been known to do that?

if it's a friend board than pretty much all you can do is buy a new wii. if you send it to big n not only will they charge you a shitload but they'll do the same thing as buying a new wii and you will lose everything on the wii that's what happened when i sent mine in that got the video board of death.

Well they said if Nintendo was not able to repair that they would send me a replacement and had to me to choose the color I wanted. I picked the Mario anniversary red Wii. I don't really mind to lose everything, I can softmod it again no problem and I have almost everything stored on my HDD that i use with my Wii.
