Still very different. The only similarities are that both are time consuming (you cant play few hours, you have to play a lot to the game make sense) and both are great games.

By the way, If I had time for play these games, I would choose Animal Crossing first.

Animal crossing you do that to collect things and unlock stuff, you dont need to do it
Harvest moon, you have to do that to earn money and live

AC, you dont sleep, sleeping = saving, time matches real life
Havest moon, you sleep for energy, passing days, nothing matched to real life

Animal crossing is sort of similar to harvest moon but animal crossing is a lot more fleshed out and has different goals. Also Rune Factory > Harvest moon ...just saying.

In my opinion, Animal Crossing is a lot like Harvest Moon without all the monotony. If you want to progress in Harvest Moon, you have to spend a lot of time doing chores and working on your farm.

In AC, if you want to just have a basic shack, nobody cares....just do it. No penalties except for the damn weeds that infest everywhere if you forget to play a day.

Huh a lot of people here prefer Animal Crossing... I like the Harvest Moon series a lot more. The characters in Animal Crossing are befriendable in like one day and then they just keep repeating stuff over and over. I really miss dating/getting married, there are absolutely no goals in Animal Crossing (except for paying of your debt) and it's so tedious to play. I enjoy it for about a day or maybe two, but then I'm tired of it. I don't get this with Harvest Moon.

But I guess it's just a matter of taste.

Yes, taste.
I don't even play animal crossing. I played it a little on the ds and I got a little fed up. But maybe there are a lot of things to do.
All I have to do is run. :P
The 3DS version, I will surely get it and won't be bored.

I must point out that I've only played the DS version for a long enough time to comment on it. The Wii version I only played for about two full days, and it was a bit better in my opinion, but it being on a non-handheld system made it a bit difficult for me to play it more often.
I am looking forward to the 3DS game, but I personally just like Harvest Moon more if I had to compare them (but to be fair, you might as well compare the Sims to these games as well then as you can also farm and socialise there. Just pointing out that they aren't necessarily alike).

ANB is the best HM to come out in years. Definitely recommend it.

It's not really fair to compare it to Animal Crossing NL though. They are similar in that they are "virtual life" simulation games, but HM has you building relationships with townspeople, Animal Crossing is kind of just about you collecting things to build yourself up. (In the new one you can also build up your town as well). Most are more familiar with Animal Crossing, or have played one of the "bad" Harvest Moon DS games and were forever turned off the series.

I like them both, and they really are different from each other.

Ha ha.
Then Animal Crossing is just an interior decorating game.

They both are different games in a lot of ways. I played both and I like both, but I have to say that AC is better imho. First of all, AC has a lot of freedom to it, you can do whatever you want to do whenever you want to. The time is relevant to the real time so you're not restricted with the game click like HM which an hour in-game is equal to 60 seconds in real. Second of all, AC is heavily focused on the ability to customize EVERYTHING, and in the 3DS one, you can customize about everything, from clothes to your own town.
