With retail games in the eShop these days, it seems people rather buy the games as the downloadable versions. For a person who likes having everything in one place (in this case, the 3DS itself), I have a 1:25 ratio (1 cart per 25 downloaded). The only two carts I have for the 3DS are Theatrhythm and Rhythm Thief. Everything else is of various types. Recently been expanding the VC game collection as well. Since owning the XL back in late-August, I only downloaded two DSiWare titles (Touch Solitare, from when it was the Club Nintendo purchase; and Puzzler World XL, since I have the 2nd game on the now defunct AK2i), yet everything else was via DSi System Transfer, in which 50 DSiWare existed.

Having everything in one place... that's what the AK2i was for. Now, it's just eShop-related. ^_^

Besides, I loathe GameStop.

I buy Carts for games that are available Retail and usually avoid digital only games. that excludes Ambassador games. I got Links Awakening DX and PvZ digitally from eShop, and thats all i will ever get and i regret the PvZ purchase as it sucks compared to android/IOS version. that decision has to do with no way to recover digital purchases if the console gets lost or Stolen. or removed from possession somehow. if my Vita gets stolen or lost, i can redownload digital games on another easily so I do not steer away from digital as much.

I'd probably buy the actual carts. Cuz what if you system got corrupted or something? BAM! No more games.
I would like to think that download rights are stored server side, just like on the Wii. If your system got corrupted or something I'm sure Nintendo can figure it out for you.

Personally I'm a buyer, I love having a nice stack of boxes to look at and to display. Only games that were downloaded were DSi and eShop titles, my space on my SD card is used for music and pics, videos, movies ^_^

I have 4 carts, and five downloadables (I'm only talking about games that are also available in boxes, not VC like OP)

I like to buy retail for single player games that are beaten once and forgotten about after. Reselling is always a nice option.
For games like MK7 and Harvest Moon I like to always have on the system. See a friend racing online? No need to run all the way up to my room to switch carts, it's right there on my system. (:<

I'm a bit of a collector so I never sell my games back, that being said I'd prefer to keep them and just put them on my shelf where they will be fine and still work 20 years from now.

WOAH, 1:25 and you have 2 physical copies? That's 52 games you own.

I have a few eShop games, but if a cart is available retail, I usually get that version. Mostly because I can get it cheaper, and play it on any of the systems in the house......rather than just the one it's downloaded to.

Only bought a couple of games out of curiosity so far, ratio is 5:4 (five games, four eShop-only titles). Sitting on 28 EUR eShop credit and don't really know what to do with it.

Digital downloads seem worthless, IMHO, as I don't feel that I "get" anything in exchange. I want to have something physical to put in my shelve, same for books and CDs. I hate the development towards digital stores in all areas.
