Hello,
I have a 21' Dell monitor, and I dont own a TV. I was wondering if it is possible to connect the Wii U to my PC Monitor?

my Monitor supports HDMI.

also, it does NOT have internal speakers, so would I be able to connect standard speakers to the wii U with some sort of adapter?

thanks,

you would need a HDMI switch that had a analog stereo output on it or some sort of adapter that strips audio from HDMI as the Wii U disalbles the AV port completely in WiiU mode.

like this one http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10110&cs_id=1011002&p_id=7112&seq=1&format=2, along with a RCA to 1/8 stereo http://www.amazon.com/3-5mm-Stereo-Female-Y-Cable-6-Inch/dp/B000I23TTE/ref=pd_sim_e_3 so you can attach pc speakers to it.

i was lucky enough to have a monitor with speakers that has headphone and optical out so i was able to use analog headphones and speakers and digital PCM via optical to my reciever that only does analog and optical/coaxial (stereo only tho)

basically, the way to use one would be this

without switch: Wii U HDMI--->Monitor

with switch: Wii U HDMI--->Switch (any of the inputs on it) --->HDMI output on switch--->Monitor
Audio: Switch--->RCA to 1/8 adapter--->PC speakers
and a ASCII pic
........................................----------
------| ............--------........|............|
WiiU |=====|Switch|====|Monitor |
------| ............--------.........----------
........................\
.........................\++++|Speakers|

[ignore the .'s][= is HDMI cable, + is audio cable]

Set Wii U sound to Stereo
gamepad can be stereo or Surround

so, will the wii U function correctly on my monitor? I have heard that there may be loss of quality?

he just said his monitor has no speakers. usually those monitors have no audio out either since they have no audio related components in them.

you cant use the hdmi to vga one that is a cable but the box one (seond link) would work. but there would be quality loss. use a hdmi switch with analog out. it seperates the audio with no picture quality loss. not sure about sound quality loss but the sound produced by the wii U is by no means spectacular anyway so i doubt you would notice sound quality loss if there is even any.

the hub for seperating the sound from the HDMI. without it, you cannot get analog sound for to hook to the PC speakers.
there is NO loss of quality using a HDMI switch/hub as HDMI is digital. there is there is either picture or no picture.

anyway, the hub is really useful as you can plug stuff like a 360 and other hdmi devices in and get audio without needing a 360 analog audio cable, and the same for other HDMI devices.
it also allows you to hook multiple HDMI devices to your monitor and switch between them without having to unplug them and plug the other one into your monitor.

Perhaps a different approach: the gamepad controller has an audio jack. You can connect a standard headset into that and listen to the audio that way. I'm not entirely sure if it then displays all sounds on it (some games, like zombiU, normally use the gamepad for things like "incoming calls", whereas the monitor audio has the sounds of the level itself).

This would work but its more of a last ditch thing to try as some games play different sounds on the gamepad like you mentioned.Sonic All Stars racing transformed is on of the most noticeable, you do not hear much from it sound wise as its all coming from the wii U to the TV. this kind of setup would fail badly for games like all stars racing transformed.
