It seems like these are the only games (that aren't on virtual console) that aren't playable. I mean banjo-kazooie, diddy kong racing and mischief makers all work. So why not theses two? Is Wii64 even still being worked on?

Banjo Tooie already runs on not64 with FB textures ON.
IDK if this patch makes it perform better with Not64 can anyone test it?

the game pretty much failed to work on all emulators until this patch was released

it's been working perfectly in 1964 (and pj64 but crashes a lot).

runs and fully playable are entirely different the game is painfully slow to play like 10 fps. you also do realize this patch is so it will circumvent the copy protection so it runs on devices like the Everdrive 64?

Nope. I just tried it. With FB textures ON, it plays in slow motion. With FB textures OFF, you see nothing but white all around banjo. I don't really see what this patch did. Disappointed.

Yes! Thanks to FAST6191 I was able to patch it. You need a tool from here:

http://www.romhacking.net/utilities/677/

Once you download it, you unzip it with 7-zip. After you patch the game the extension will be bak. But you need to change it back to v64. Follow these directions to do that:

http://www.mediacollege.com/microsoft/windows/extension-change.html

After that just transfer the patched game back to your USB drive or memory card.

Are you sure about the .bak file ? Because generally those are backup of the ORIGINAL file, not the patched file. The patched file should overwrite the orifinal .z64 or .v64 file. Changing file extensions is generally a bad idea.

Anyway, all this patch does is fixing a copy protection check in the ROM for emulators that does not emulate the CIC chip right. It won't magically fix slowdown on emulators running on less powerful systems li like the Wii. The only way to "fix" that is to optimize the emulator even more, which is not always possible and obviously not so easy as a simple "patch"

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way

It's old but it's the best firmware out for DS stuff
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
it says it only works for the original R4, R4i Gold (r4ids.cn), R4iDSN (r4idsn.com) and Acekard R.P.G.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    nvm it does support mine
