Now you mention it: no.

In that video of the teardown you linked to, those guys started their wiiu, did the whole time, date, region...stuff on the wiiu, then proceeded to the rest of the wiiu. But once they got into wii mode, it restarted into wii mode. I think they still had to pair the wiimote, but I'm certain that they didn't had to put in that region and time again for the wii part.

Very odd, considering that the wii mode is completely different from the wiiu mode.

Well, I'll wait to hear from someone who has one. Maybe no one has just bothered to report it. But if in fact they did not have to enter in all the region settings then it's possible that the wii u mode could enter all of that stuff in the wii nand, which means that if the wii u mode has constant access to the nand then all N has to do if make a new update for wii u mode to fix a wii u hack or unauthorized software and such that is found out for the wii mode.

I bet they have already thought of this.

Hi guys, when you enter Wii mode, it restarts to screen where it asks you to press A, then you can start using everything on it without paring again your wiimotes, the settings menu is gone, there is only the data part of it on the menu, on the channels side: you will find the transfer tool channel, disc channel, wii shop channel, wii u channel, Mii channel and Wii Menu Manual Channel.

Good day people!

Thank you, but i'm talking about the very first time launching the wii mode. But I guess with what you told me that it's safe to assume that it does not do it because that data is probably written to the nand by the wii u mode when those type of settings are initially set up.

The very first time you enter wii mode you do it by pressing the wii u mode channel on the GamePad, then it will ask you to use a wiimote to select the menu again but this time on the TV, then whe you press the button the GamePad Shuts off and the Wii Mode loads on the tv and then what i said before starts.

As DF said, the Wii U menu probably updates the SYSCONF file for Wii mode when the user changes settings there. It makes sense: A normal user wouldn't want to set their console up twice, nor have to change things twice.

The vWii SM is v513 (that's 4.3U), but it definitely doesn't act like it: No setup (initial or menus), letterbomb fixed, there's the orange Wii System Transfer channel (and no separate title ID for it on wiimpersonator or WiiUBrew, suggesting it's built into the menu)...

I wonder how a vWii would handle if a regular 4.3U were installed on it...and vice versa (vWii menu on a real Wii).

The transfer app doesn't actually TRANSFER anything other than save files. The VC stuff it just notes the shop channel account in the SD card so the Wii U can download them directly itself.

Unfortunately, you can't get any unauthorized stuff through with the transfer utility.

This isn't necessarily true. The transfer requires 512 mb of free SD card space, and when I completed my transfer all the Wii channels installed on the Wii's NAND was also on the vWii's NAND. The transfer process does NOT install stuff copied to the SD card. That software you have to redownload. Also, the transfer process took WAY too long for it to just be transferring licenses. There's an actual data copy going on, and it's significant. Took me the better part of an hour for the 3rd step (copying from SD card to vWii).

So I think dude's solution may actually work, as long as you actually own the title you are modifying to ensure that it gets transferred on the SD card.

Well, I have no evidence to go by, but I have a feeling that it would not work without some sort of hackery going on, but you never know.

Damnit. I really wish I had a Wii U now, but I'm not going to have any way to purchase one until probably next year. Urghh.

Kinda what I was thinking, especially for the Wii SM on a vWii. The Wii U half probably wouldn't like it very much.

I suspect putting the vWii menu onto a Wii would be easier, if only because there's less in the way of undocumented software to fight with (just the menu vs. the entire Wii U side, boot2, and possibly IOS if done the other way around).

Speaking of Boot2, anyone figured out what version a vWii has? (Can we even check the version without access?)

Being that crediar dumped the OTP and it has a boot1 hash, I think its fair to say that it probably does have a boot2.
I didn't say anything about having it, just using it. A Wii U has BC installed as well, but doesn't use it. It's just there so Wii games won't do unnecessary updates.
