Well I'm not really sure how I would do things if I had to make the decision. Well hopefully either way it will be a good game.

The title has some errors it should be fans not fan.

The way I see it... you can't have a Mass Effect... without Mass Relays - it sort of loses the whole point. Either name it differently and keep it in the same universe or make damn sure that the "canon" ending you pick is actually consistent with what you prepared for the game. Otherwise, probably a prequel... Or even a game set in the same timeline, but from an entirely different perspective.

Hahahaha.
I knew it. They are clueless aren’t they? They have no idea what to do, so now they finally ask the user base.
But here's a cruel twist. Let's say that they listen to the user base and everybody is happy and wait for the game release.
The twist is that the game would be completely different from what the user base asked.
LOL.

It's always good when devs have no clue what they're going to be doing...and then presenting it as a fan-choice.
Not that it's a bad thing....depending on how much time they have.

I'd want to see a sequel just to see how much more they could piss off their fanbase.

Depends a bit. As Mass Effect is more about a story in an epic setting than Shepard, I'd say go for a sequel. Not that a prequel would be bad, but I'd like to see the continuation of the story forward instead of how it came to be (which is basically told already in the ME games already, though quite quickly).

I say change the name if Shepard isn't there.

I don't really see why if it's the same universe and the term "Mass Effect" isn't even important to the story of the Mass Effect trilogy.

It only refers to the massive technological leap mankind made after discovering Prothean technology, which happens a fair amount of time before the first game.

But on the subject of "sequel or prequel", I'd have to say sequel. I know people got pissy about the ending of the last game but irregardless, it set up a really interesting universe. In fact I thought the story would be absolutely prime for a MMO.

Well maybe make this a prequel about the wars they reference (like the one with Turians?) and how mankind came to establish itself as a force in the universe.

With as much lore they have to play around with, they should make a couple of prequels.

The From Ashes DLC made me really really want a prequel about the Prothean war against the Reapers.

Seriously, tons of stuff they can play around with. The Prothean's war with the Reapers, the discovery of the Rachni and the Rachni wars, the Krogan Rebellions, the Morning War, the First Contact War, and a big list of other crap. Or, even better, we can have a game following Cerberus's actions.

Hell, they could make some games on the side stories of the game. Garus's/Archangels squad during his war on Omega? Perfect example of something that could be expanded and made into a game. Or the Paragon Lost movie, that can be turned into a game as well.

They don't need a direct sequel to 3 yet, since they have so much interesting stuff in the current timeline that they could play with.

I stopped playing half way through the second one, because... yeah.

From what I've heard about the third, I think a prequel would be much fresher and more enjoyable, especially if it can be planned as some separate story thing. Like a side-story game. Not that gimmicky crap where you play as an NPC, but you just start the game within the Mass Effect universe... just someone in it. Its own micro story.

A game about the resistances struggle on Earth, while Shepard is going around making alliances, would be interesting.
