Sweet, there may not be any Wii U games I want, but there's a ton of Wii games I still want to play. :)

Xenoblade has been reported to look more crisper. Don't expect dolphin like rendering but some improvements in visuals for Wii games.

I'm sorry but that's no different than the tv upscaling the games from a wii

I am not so sure- game mode for a lot of TVs disables proper upscaling, even under ideal conditions I do not really rate upscaling in a lot of TV sets I have seen vs some of the real time stuff I have to play with on a PC and if* they have the algorithms right then they may also dodge some of the more noticeable problems with upscaling like blurry text.

*not a big technical ask but still something of a "big if", especially if the Wii stuff runs more or less natively as opposed to emulated a la the 360 backwards compatibility. I do not imagine there is much incentive for Nintendo to go through on a game by game basis either but I am quite prepared to be wrong there.

That's very good actually, it might depend on the TV being used but displaying Wii games through an HDMI cable alone is already a grand improvement.
But it also upscales to 720p or 1080p? That is very welcome.

People keep forgetting that Wii U's native upscaling of Wii games means they'll not be transmitted in analog formats like NTSC or PAL so the signal won't have as many losses as the regular Wii had even with an hdmi adapter.

On mine it really doesn't look all that much different, Even through the HDMI cable at 720P. If it does look better (I can't tell) it's very minimal. Also for virtual console games to play in 4:3 I have to switch the Wii U settings to 480p non-widescreen before going into Wii-Mode, so it's kinda a hassle to do that every time. Unfortunately there is no option on my TV to squish the 720p into that aspect ratio.

The upscaling process creates input lag.

Image quality does not improve when upscaled to a higher resolution, only when rendered at a higher resolution.

still has nothing to do with anything. resolution is amount of pixels. that's it. how long it takes to get your screen doesn't change resolution.

plus sound through HDMI introduces sound lag, good luck with rhythm games.
