While its been teased a while, BioWare's own Star Wars MMO, the Old Republic, will be going free to play next week.

On November 15th, players can play the MMO up until the lvl 50 for no cost. If you're an old subscriber to the MMO, you can still use your subscription, and gain access to some features that F2P'ers don't have, like Cartel Coins, two extra quick slot bars, a purchasable Cargo Hold tab, and an accelerated EXP boost that F2P'ers also have access too.

So if you were interested in the MMO but didn't fancy a $15/mo subscription cost, it's worth a try on November 15th.

In other news, I'm starting to play the Old Republic next week.

I'll try to do the same if my laptop can handle it, my friend used to subscribe and said the game was excellent but we both eventually couldn't/didn't want to pay the subscription price. Now that it's F2P we can play together on an equal level.

While I probably won't start on this next week, I will do soon. It might not be the sequel to KOTOR2 I was hoping for but i'll give it a shot

Oh i tought i was already. For the little I played (few hours) Its a solid MMO. The game engine is really efficient compared to most mmo out there you don't need a high end machine to experience good graphics.

It's officially F2P now.

I started playing it after a day of downloading and installing and it's pretty fun. Still very typical MMO but it's not like KOTOR was anything more than a single player MMO. Mostly playing it for the story and stuff.

Also some of the best cinematics I've ever seen.

One of my friends is playing it, big Starwars fan and he was delighted to hear the news.
He has played a few hours, and he was kind of disappointed that there aren't a whole lot of players in the worlds atm, it's really unpopular apparently.

Cinematics/voices/story is very impressive indeed.

The US servers have "light" amounts of players but the EU servers range from "heavy" to "very heavy".

Since I'm an antisocial prick it's not a big deal to me, I may end up playing it with a friend of mine. Otherwise I don't expect to be "making friends" or playing it like a full blown MMO like I did with Runescape and the original Guild Wars.

EDIT: My character's name is Guildcommunist if anyone is interested. I'll probably use my second character slot to play with my friend.

I might give it another shot...but it was so typical it hurt. The only thing it really had over other MMOs, is fancier questing...little cutscenes and shit...definitely not for me. I take quests for exp, not the cinematic experience.

Pretty obvious why this is just another MMO going F2P to try and survive. I heard it was pretty restrictive after a little while.
